I only have PC's. No Mac products. Don't understand why the Mac would have calibration problems. Maybe others here can assist.

When I was first shopping for a 'system' I considered Mac.
In every forum I visited then and now, calibration gripes focus on iMac screens being too bright and Calibration tools not having effect. But as I said, there is no way of knowing how adept the posters are at using any of the calibration tools. If my comment prompts the OP to dig a little deeper then we have all fulfilled what this forum is about and what makes it unique.

I wonder if the ambient light when the calibration was performed was a culprit? Calibrating in an environment of high room lighting will cause the monitor to look brighter when using in lower light levels.

Most likely yes, how many really give enough weight to ambient light. Most print when they can, or need to. I was one of them and saw the variation in my results as my failure to use the calibrator correctly. There I was lucky because that belief took me down the right path.
My calibration is done only in one set of lighting conditions, fortunately for me that is also a convenient time to do my printing. The evenings under my room lighting is far from ideal, but experince, plus trial and error have got me to a point where my prints are ok in good light next day. It also gives the ink time to dry fully and settle down.

I am very lazy in that respect; my monitors adjust themselves for whatever lighting conditions I am using..

Oops!
Are you saying that there is a monitor available that calibrates to variable light?

I thought that the workflow for proper calibration is:
Connect calibration device
Set ambient light
Calibrate monitor.
Thereafter the closer one is to the light value the monitor is calibrated to the more accurate adjustments made via proof will be. I have been almost devout in my daherance to that tenant!!!
I have avoided making prints during the day when the ambient striking the shaded monitor will be stronger than the calibrated ambient........
Am I misunderstanding?

Cheers

Andrew

Might have known, The Hat would not be the owner of such a monitor, it would take all the fun out of printing!!!
