I recently replaced a Pro 3800 by a new Pro 3880.
I kept a set of 9 old carts of my 3800 (dated 2009) which had been made re-fillable.

I did put these old carts in the new 3880. All carts were accepted in the 3880 except T5806 (LM) and T5803 (M). I then purchased second hand, T580A (viv M) and T580B (viv LM).

After a while I used my resetter to put all old carts back to "full".
This was no problem with most carts except T5809 (LLK) which I no longer could reset to full. I could also reset the T5806 (viv M), but not the T580B (viv LM) to full.

Before I inserted and used the old T5809 (LLK) in my new 3880 I could reset this cart without a problem. After using it in my new 3880 resetting was no longer possible.

I used two new resetters in trying to reset T5809 (LLK) and T580B (viv LM). But this is impossible!
I even tried to reset the new T5809 (LLK) that came with the new Pro 3880, but this was not possible either!
In addition I have the impression that resetting T5807 (LK) has become more difficult but can still be done.

Does anybody have this same experience with their new 3880?
Harry

@Harry Briels It sounds like Epson might have just slipped in a firmware update on you somewhere unknowingly of course.. :somad

Although I invested already in 4 resetters in the course of more than a year with very lilted success, I decided to give it another final try because the seller "directfineart@gmail.com" in California was very convincing that his resetter would reset all carts on my 3880. Also the price was right.
I expect to receive this resetter this week and will let you know what the results are.
If I can't reset all carts to full, I will have to start buying replacements at high cost of the carts that I can not reset.

I am sorry to hear that Harry, I’d suggest you check your printer software twice to make sure that the firmware upgrade in there is turned off or disabled, Epson release new updates to the printer every few months to catch and stop the use of compatibles. :(

You may have to get all new the new chips for your cartridges rather than a new resetter..

@The Hat:
Can you help me, or anybody out there, to find detailed information regarding how finding firmware upgrades in the 3880 software and how to turn these off?

You may have to get all new the new chips for your cartridges rather than a new resetter..
This would not be necessary because I have the complete new set of carts that came with the new 3880. However as I wrote before the new T5809 (LLK) and the new T580B( viv LM), can not be reset to full with my resettersI
I wait for the resetter on its way to me and hope that that will solve the problem!

Sorry Harry, but I can’t help you with because I don’t have any Epson printers and I wouldn’t know where to look either, I do hope the new resetter works for you..:)

All of them! LOL
Harry. I emailed you today.
But I will add this question to you.
Did you attempt the resets before they reached 15-20%?

I agree with The Hat that there has to be a new firmware in that new printer and that may be rewriting something onto the chip to prevent it from being reset.
The three colors that you can not reset have be mentioned by many other people when it comes to the PRO 3880 and even the PRO 3800.
Two individuals who luckily live in states were able to send their carts ( these were 3800 users ) and I reset their carts and popped them into my two 3800s without a problem. They were also then able to use them in their printers. But the problem came back when it was time for them to reset them.
Even with the identical resetters I use. So I have NO clue what the hell is going on here.

We've got to solve this!

This morning I received the new resetter I ordered from "RJ International Group, Inc - Winnetka Ca. 91306"
As I wrote before I could not reset: T5807 LK, T5809 LLK and T580B vivid LM.

I tested the new resetter as follows:
- I opened the ink cover;
- Took out the first cart T5807, which so far I could not reset;
I could indeed reset this cart: the green light on the resetter came up and went off after a while. This normally indicates a successful reset!
- Then I did put back the resetted cart T5807 in the printer, closed the print cover and then noticed that the LCD still showed the same lower ink level as before, not the full level = no reset.

The same happened with the other two carts whereby the LCD continued to show the lower ink levels as before = no reset.

- I then took all the three carts out of the printer again, closed the ink cover, switched off the printer and disconnected the main current.
I waited approx.15 min, reconnected the 3880 and switched the printer on, opened the ink cover, put in all three carts, closed the ink cover and to my pleasant surprise, all three carts now did show a full ink level.

Perhaps a complicated way to reset these carts, but it works!

Yes complicated .. but good to hear that it works.

Two questions:
- Is the new resetter any better or would the previous do it the same way?
Because I guess I have the same like you first, which jtoolman had recommended and which WAS working before you had new trouble ... ebay item 171327696985 ...
And I did reset the problem carts with green light but I did NOT refill and put them in the printer yet, so I'm not sure what will happen.

- which firmware version you have on your 3880 now? And was it updated?

I have p0079c-1.03.800e. I think a firmware update has to be made by the user and I haven't found any "auto-update" in my 3880 software yet...
