Printer Model
Epson SC P900
I use an Apple Silicon M1 Mac Book Pro on Sonoma 14.7 OS
Photoshop 2025 and an Epson p900 printer.

I have been using Macs ColorSync Utility to print some grayscale color targets, as it has a specific mode for that purpose.

I hope that was the correct choice, yet if not, I will have to rework my experiments, which is OK to have the best accuracy.

One of my planned future experiments is to verify if the 16-bit mode in the Mac Epson Printer Driver actually makes any difference.
That experiment depends on a few factors.
1) Reducing the measurement variability and measurement stability to measure variations below steps in 8-bit mode reliably and
2) Being able to send data to the printer driver in 16-bit mode

The Epson Driver has a 16-bit mode, yet printing from the ColorSync Utility does not (not offered). From my experiments, I already see the quantization noise limits of 8-bit data sent to the ColorSync printer driver.

So, can I reliably print a Color Target from the Epson Printer Driver (no color management) from within Photoshop to send 16-bit data at least into the printer driver? Comparing the measurement results of a target made in 8-bit vs 16-bit mode might be interesting.

Thanks in advance for your insight
