replacing original chips on PGI-550/CLI-551 with auto reset chips

Yes it is, but just curious how it would behave if the chip is programmed as normal capacity and you put it on high capacity cartridges or vice versa. Does the prism send a trigger to the chip, warning the cartridge is almost empty ?

You are right I use XL chip in normal cartridges but I see it is give warning red X when its near empty so I refill it again with my scale and back to printer to full again level of ink.
