Replacement for a i560

I hate to start another 'which one' thread, but acfter 8 or so years of owning a i560, actually 3 or 4 over that period (not at once, I need to replace this with something newer.

After spending a couple of days researching these LED printers (Brother specifically) vs 'Laser', Epson vs Canon, Thermo vs Piezo, I decided to stay with Canon and dye based ink.

Specifically I'm looking for:

Printer only, used, less than 10 years old,
NO multifunction machine,
Tanks that don't need the chip replaced, just reset, that will still show ink level in the software,
Four or five colors (Two BK, Mg, Cy, Yl), separate ink tanks,
Easily refillable with bulk ink,
User replaceable print head,
Size is an issue (16" wide x 14" deep w/ trays extended & 8-9" high),
Nice if it was Linux compatible, thou that is probably a pipe dream with Canon.

95% of my printing is web based, documents (.doc & .pdf) & graphics. Maybe 5% photos. Half is very short term (weeks or months). I average 5k sheets a year. I do have a mono Laser/copier/color scanner that is rarely used.

Suggestions for the series and/or specific models and/or the carts/tanks they use.

My ink source with their modified tanks literately 'dried' up (ColorBat in Pa.) Those modified tanks allowed refilling IN the printer since the reservoir fill opening is left open unlike the Canon design. It was far superior. The ink was sucked up a tube then over into the sponge, not thru that opening in the bottom of the partition. "Hideous Hooch" was his trade name for the ink that he bought from a supplier in NJ (which is still in business).

If someone knows of another source for newer printers, please post.

There is not much to choose from in the Canon range that's not impossible to refill or are all multifunction printers, so I reckon you best choice would be a Pro 100, yes its not what your use too but its easy to refill and maintain and will last you years and is available at Adorama and other stores too at a very good discount..

The Pro 100 is way too wide and uses too many tanks. Besides, I wasn't looking for something that current. Your statement seems to apply to current models.

Canon doesn't appear to have any current printer only models.

120 views and no one here has a Canon standard printer without all the extras???

@videobruse, the type of printer you’re specifically looking for can only be pick up second hand at a garage sale, but only if your extremely luck, because there long since gone from the market place.

Canon now only make what most photo guys and youngster want and will sell, the great old reliable printers are either treasured or trashed but sadly are no longer for sale, I still treasure the two I have that don’t use Chips on their cartridges, but when the head is dead. I too will have to move on.

I reckon the Pro 100 would satisfy your needs better than most others, it’s probably the best printer available on the market today, it may not be exactly what you want but you’ll fall in love with it once you get it home..

Two problems with your suggestion; it's too wide for where it has to go and there are too many carts. Four carts were fine. I'll live with five, but that's it.

I'm looking at a ip4300. Thou it's a year older than the ip4500, it's easier to find on eBay. At this time there wasn't any 4500's at all. I considered others in the iP series; 3000, 3500, 4000, 4200, 5000, but for one reason or another this 4300 seems the better pick.

Still not cast in stone. One nice thing about older units, it's easier to obtain the service manual.

I also considered the Brother HL-3170CDW "LED" Printer. Never heard of LED Printers before mostly due the manufactures not labeling them as 'LED', but either as 'Laser' or 'Digital' instead.
Just the complete opposite with the "LED TV" marketing scam so many fell prey to thanks to Samsung. But that is another story.
