That is not true: the printhead is always sealed in a vacuum foil bag and must be cut out and placed into the craddle before installing the cartridges. The printhead is never installed in your printer if this is a brand new one. You should have a printhead in a sealed bag and cartridges that are sealed as well when you bought the printer.

Maybe this can help you remember about the sealed printhead when you bought your printer:

It was a very long time ago and you could well be right. All I asked was a very simple question and I was hoping for a simple answer. I have my answer now from The Hat. I'm not being funny but I don't spend my life on printer forums and don't do a great deal of printing, so I'm no expert. This is why I asked in the first place.

Sorry if this was a problem. I only wanted help. :barnie

No one has asked yet....... why do you want to remove the print head? Is there a problem you're diagnosing?

Blockage in the magenta head. I've tried a home made cleaner cartridge but no luck. So my next step is to wash out the heads. Any tips on how to do that would be gratefully received :)

Ash Blockage in the magenta head.
Are you sure that it is the print head and not the magenta cartridge, have you checked by using another cartridge to be sure,
also remember only do nozzle checks and nothing else..
Any tips on how to do that would be gratefully received :)
Just stand the print head in about 1 of window cleaner in a small container for a few hours or even
overnight then pop it back in to your printer and see if that has cleared the blockage for you.

Word of advice please make sure that the electronics on the back are keep dry and free
from any moisture before inserting the print head into your printer.

Just do a head clean and a nozzle check for to the results.. :)

Thank's I'll try a new cartridge first and then go for the print head clean if needed. I've refilled the same cartridges many times so that could be the problem!

Ash - a simple test of the cart that you''ve refilled several times is to blow gently into the air vent to see if the cart drips freely with fairly light air pressure. In addition, if you top fill you can remove the seal from the fill hole and see how freely the cart drips. In either case, if the dripping is sluggish, you can purge the cart, dry it completely, and refill it again.

Thanks. One more thing to try :)

UPDATE: I was typing this (and looking up link) while the two of you exchanged posts). I'll leave my post simply for the link.

Did you recently refill the magenta cartridge? Look to see if the air vent at the top of the cartridge has ink in it. If so, that will cause a flow issue.

There are many threads on this topic, especially with the magenta cartridge. Here's a recent one:
