I was wondering what peoples experience is with Refillable Cartridges for HP Photosmart B209a (364 Cartridge) and if there are any they would recommend (Im in the UK)?

I bought a new HP and it only comes with the small 364 cartridges that cannot be refilled, easily anyway. I have heard that the made to refill cartridges are not as good as the OEM ones but how much difference is there?

I dont really want to spend 40 on new 364XL OEM cartridges when I can get some made to refil one for 1/4 of that.

i am ordering just such a set of cartridges from precision colors they cost $18.00 US you do have to move the chip from the OEM cartridges to these cartridges it will be several weeks before i can give an update but i have been very happy with all products that i have ordered from precision colors in the past

Hi James 266 I have previously posted my problems in refilling these 364 OEM carts. I have the C5380 Printer. I have tried the German method (once) and the Intec system (very good) but failed to get consistent results. sometimes you get constant low ink warnings and sometimes the printout was variable and I resorted to cleaning the print head with Mr muscle window fluid as per many posts by this excellent forums many experts. so I purchased via e-bay a refillable set which look very similar to the ones shown in mrelmo picture. Rather than install all in one set I wanted to use up some of the expensive ink I had so filled a cart as each one emptied. So far so good all seemed well very easy to do. until I got to the last cart the photoblack. When installed I got a message "missing or damaged cart" with a red cross shown on the computor monitor. The supplier sent me a replacement today but same result so have had to put back in an original OEM cart. If this problem can be solved I think the refillable route great. because you can put a measured quantity in 8mm against 3mm recommended with the intec instructions. And the case is transparent which is helpful for future refills. I have tried using a chip from another cart but no difference. also when you get this message you are locked in position will not accept any command except off.How a plastic case with or without Intec Ink can be deemed damaged or missing is very puzzling. I hope one of the experts will suggest something. These newer HP M/C's appear to have more and more safeguards to try and stop you refilling. When its working the copies are good (do few photo's) but is so unreliable, and using OEM carts costs a fortune to run because you get so few pages per cart. I regret buying it

@barfl2 - That is very odd how it tells you that it is damaged. I have ordered some refilable cartridges that look the same as the pitcture above. Ill see how I get one with them and post back here.

James266 Update to my earlier post. Now appear (Fingers crossed) to have a fully functioning refillable 364/564 set of carts. The supplier kindly sent me 2 blank photo-black carts. The first one was fittted with the relevant chip tried in the slot empty and gave the same error message and the same locked in state. For the second one I tried a different approach. I fitted a Y chip removed full cart and bingo got the correct message Y empty, then fitted a M chip and got the correct result. Finally I fitted the B chip and this time got the empty message. I took it out and filled it, left it for a few minutes to settle, installed it and so far all is well. preprint levels show the PB with ink the rest empty. So until somebody clever can reset these chips I will have to rely on manual inspection of the carts levels. But at least it is working although I still have no idea why i cart from 3 should work. I carefully measured them and were identical to OEM ones. How they will last remains to be seen. They appear to be a lot lighter in weight.

If the contacts on the chip aren't clean, or the printer contacts they fit against are dirty you will get a issing or damaged cartridge message. It doesn't take much to cause this.
