Refill Canon MG8250

I am interested in this printer because of the CCD scanner, and the apparently reasonable film scanning results (any experience at this point ?).

Is there any difference in cartridge refilling with the MG5250 (apart from adding the grey) ?
How about the extra feature detecting infrared LED's ? Does this impact refilled OEM's ?

I guess this question is about ink level sensor. If it is, then:
- I'm note sure if it is IR, it is present in Pixma family very long...
- for sure works with not reseted OEM chips, triggers U041/1600 "The ink may have run out. Replacing the ink tank is recommended."
- not very sure if works with reseted chips (OEM and compatible), according to my experience, doesn't work
- not very sure if works with compatible single-purpose chips and ARCs, according to my experience, doesn't work

The MG5250 uses 525/526 cartridges and they can be filled with a little extra care but you could substitute them for a set of 520/521’s instead which would make refilling much more manageable.

You would have to switch the chips of course other that the two cartridges are physically the same except the 520/521 are semi-opaque (Helps in refilling) and there is a chip resetter available and ARC chips if you care to use them..

I use resetted OEM and resetted Peach compatibles in the MG5250 and IX6550 without problem.
Must have been confused somewhere, I would be surprised if this set - with adding a gray - should not work in the MG8250.

Most of my cartridges are opaque, but I use a scale to know how many ink to add.
I practiced on the transparent ones. With a syringe of 48mm I am in the ink chamber.

I was referring to "Ink level sensor" experience, it is auxiliary sensor, and it is only dedicated to check ink presence over prism in ink cartridge.

Ink tank is detected by chip presence.
Chip presence is detected in two ways, or maybe better said, two levels:

1. Chip communication - read/write chip memory (and steering chip LED) by printer.
2. Chip position in carriage slot, in other words "Ink tank position sensor", or "AB sensor", which looks for light emitted by ink tank chip led.

Both of them works fine if only chip is OK and ink tank is acceptable design ("Ink tank position sensor" can detect compatible ink tanks cause compatibles aren't opaque).

This auxiliary sensor must be known by most compatible cart manufacturers, since the MG8250 accepted all kinds, transparent and opaque.

Nice printer (luxury matte grey appearance, not the shining black piano design), but the slide scanning is a bit disappointing (with Canon software and Vuescan).
Anyway, I have a 5 color (in fact 11) dye printer now, and a CCD scanner.

... The vent should not be sealed on the refilled cartridges ...

But I suppose the outlet has to be sealed to avoid drying ?
(you can't recover the orange clips as on the PGI-9 carts).
