I did find some 'sources', but couldn't find anything that were actual recommendations. I surely don't want the 'cheapest', nor do I want the 'best'. Just something above average.
I mostly print off web pages & documents with some color graphics etc. Any larger jobs of text only I use my laser printer.

This is for Canons PGI5 & CLI8 carts for a ip4300

I did find these that sell the ink,
Precision Colors Nia. Falls NY
InkOwl Bulk Ink for Canon
123 Refills DuraFIRM Ink for Canon
ASAP Inkjets Bulk Ink Canon -
InkSupply iP4300 Refill Kits
Mister Injet Canon PG-5 / CLI-8 Black
Printer Filling Station Canon PGI-5 CLI-8 Ink
Printer Ink Warehouse Canon ip4300

The simple answer is Precision Colors out of Canada.

The owner Mikling is a forum member in good standing and his inks are used by a number of members. I used those exact inks for several years and found them to be of quality and sufficient good color accuracy, ie I did not feel the need to make an ICC printer profile. The pigment Black is quite good for water resistance and highlighting, and, did not present with clogging issues. The dye-based inks perform as well as any third party inks, better than many, but will still fade well before OEM inks do. This fading is the way of aftermarket dye-based inks no matter what you buy. Some are better, many are worse, none are like OEM ink.

I recommend Precision Colors ink for your printer.

Regarding "OEM ink", other than color quality (which I assume is the biggest plus using OEM over generic), is there any other differences other than cost?

BTW, that was also on my list (or should of been), but for some reason wasn't. I see the shipping point for the US is Niagara Falls NY.

As I said, fade resistance is quite inferior with any third party dye-based ink compared to OEM. Cost is another major difference.

Color fidelity is quite variable with third party inksets, whether dye-based or pigment-based, compared to OEM inks. It's is your opinion on color balance.

One other difference is that some Pigment Black that you may use with your printer could be a contributing factor for irreparable nozzle warping due to theorized inferior cooling properties of that aftermarket Black Pigment used on the Plain Paper setting for text. One potential way to compensate is to use Quiet or Nighttime Mode for printing - the print head moves slower and printing times will increase a bit but less heat is generated. At least this is the theory the forum endorses.

One last comment - Precision Colors states their inks are specific to a class of cartridges or printer, and are not "Universal" inks. I would not use a "Universal" unless the apocalypse occurred and zombies are milling about the OEM shops and Canada (Precision Colors) had gone nuclear.

I have ordered twice from Precision Colors. It's especially nice due to their US location which is a half an hour drive from me.
I also have ordered carts from Ink Owl both in New York.

Oh, I have been using 'Quite Mode' for some time also.

As a FYI, Precision Colors dos not that the refillable Canon PGI/CLI carts anymore due to lack of supply according to their web site.
