recap/update on my two dead MP830s, both suffered fatal scanner errors. note both printers could still print, but without working scanner could not SCAN, COPY, FAX, all functions i need.

#1 MP830 w 61,000 pages printed died 02/19/15 with scanner error. figured this one had served me well so i swapped in the #2 MP830 below
http://www.printerknowledge.com/thr...o-retire-my-7-year-old-mp830.9786/#post-80601

#2 MP830 w 1,000 paged printed died 03/30/15 with scanner error. see
http://www.printerknowledge.com/thr...r-is-not-operating-properly-error-arghh.9895/

so i have 2 MP830 printers that both still print, but since i need the other functions i was going to replace it with my final spare MP830.

since #2 MP830 only had 1,000 pages on it i decided it was worth the effort to perform surgery. i was able to locate a used scanner unit for $10(OK $25 total, since shipping was $15).

scanner unit arrived, looked OK, but until i install it, who knows.

my plan was to install it in the #2 MP830 since it only had 1,000 pages. then i decided to try to breath some life into my old 61,000 pages #1 MP830.

i used my notes and pics from when i changed out the waste pads 2 years ago at 37,000 pages
http://www.printerknowledge.com/thr...-pad-replacement-at-37-000-pages-w-pics.7646/

the surgery took about 2 hours and was a success. all functions are WORKING ! those five pesky ribbon cables gave me fits again along with the removal and installation of the ADF/scanner unit, but got it done.

so now i am back printing/scanning/copying on my 5 year old MP830 with 61,000+ pages.

nice to be back in the saddle again

#1 scanner started making screeching noises, then stopped moving

#2 scanner bulb started going out 1/2 through the travel, then stopped completely

its not as though i am a heavy scan/copy/fax user, might be age since these units were made in 2006.

Hat,

i do like keeping old dogs up and running:
- 5 year old MP830 w 61,000 pages
- 30 year old john deere tractor
- 38 year old red convertible

i try to buy quality and maintain, with an occasional surgical procedure when needed

Small world. You have the MP830, I have the MP830. You had the scanner error, I had the scanner error. You have a 38 year old red convertible, I have a 44 year old red convertible.

Great job fixing your MP830! You are Da Man!!

pretty amazing coincidences all around

my 38 yr old convertible has 2 tops(soft, hard), it is in much better shape than i am.....

nice to have my 61,000 page MP830 back.

FYI, the scanner was fairly easy to replace, in case you wanted to try to fix your MP830, i can help if you get stuck.
