Epson 3880. Canon Pro 9000,
Hey there! How is your Pro 1 going....Made any further advances allowing you to refill all 12 carts yet?
I am just following a discussion on the 3880 successor..my guess is Epson are working on a SUPER cart that will not allow refilling so your efforts with the Pro1 take on a whole new slant ??

Cheers from OZ

Hi Andrew
I have successfully refilled or topped up these ink tanks more than 80 times now and they present no problems whatsoever,
very easy in fact and can be done by just about anyone, with no special experience needed.

I am however still waiting for news on the new ARCs and their release date.

Here is a link to previous posts on the Pro 1.

Epson 3880. Canon Pro 9000,
I had a scan through your posts and see that there are a couple of additions. Aside of waiting on the development of a resetter and being able (now) to get a gloss optimiser..has there been any progress in the development of all 11 colours?

See what I am anticipating is that Epson will INCREASE the colours on a new machine also, AND add an additional level (or levels ) of complexity to refilling. I am not sure that Canon are selling Pro1's as fast as they would like and I am thinking that is not entirely due to the GFC??? so I guess Epson would be looking to leverage 3880 users by force outt of their machines much as Apple does with each iteration of its software platform.........Well I confess to being a conspiracy theorist :hide

The clear gloss optimiser has always been available even before the Pro 1,
it was introduced way back and is readily available from most I.S. inks suppliers.

Before that I was using the I.S. formulated inks for the Pro 9500 and adding some black to get the extra grey colours needed
it worked but it wasnt perfect, and Inkjetcart in the US were also selling the same ink setup for the Pro 1 I believe.

There is a complete ink set available now from China (The first) and it will be quite some time before I.S. formulated any in the near future.

I am using this Chinese ink at present and quite like it and have had no issues with it regarding any colour handling or clogging problems
that one might have expected with a new ink set.(All pigment)

This Maetone ink is more than half the price of its nearest rival i.e. Ink Style and can be purchased directly
from their website with no difficulties which cant be said of Ink Style (75% Cheaper than OEM)

If and when The ARC chips appear that will make running and refilling of the Pro 1 complete but I dont think a resetter will be available any time soon,
because the ARCs will be a cheaper and better option giving the size of these ink tanks..

Epson 3880. Canon Pro 9000,
Thanks for that, had a look at the link and their profile looks good.

Would I be correct in assuming that you are still more into printing rather than " photographic printing" ?

On the ARC for the Pro 1, if it does indeed eventuate it wont be long to wait if Epson do in fact get a bit more sneaky...based on this!!

All in all I am thinking that the Pro1 is a very good printer for the folks that can/ will run OEM inks only.

Cheers,

Andrew

I only use my Pro 1 for general graphic printing and have hardly ever used it for photography purposes;
I couldnt afford to use it solely with OEM ink or their paper for that matter.

I have several other printers that use good quality cheap photo paper and their output
can pretty much satisfy me without the need for specialised photo papers.

Anybody contemplating buying a Pro 1 should only use OEM inks and paper
if they really want to get the best out of this printer.

With such a high purchase price and the need to keep this beast feed with expensive paper
and inks its not for the faint hearted, but it really does do beautiful photos dough..

Epson 3880. Canon Pro 9000,
On the surface it seems that both Canon and Epson are travelling OK. There are signs for them that look about that all is not so well. I am not an avid Corporation watcher, instead I look at selling prices, specials and promotions, for me they are the REAL indicators. Both market directly and through Agents. Watching the agents pricing tells me how well they are actually travelling.

Slowly slowly prices are coming down. Epson have taken a full page spreads in National magazines in Aus telling folks that OEM inks are good and NON OEM inks are bad........AUSTRALIA would have to be the SMALLEST developed Country population of Pro and Semi Pro photographers on the planet, so why send such a message at us?? my guess is to get a reaction, in anticipation of doing it elsewhere.....that is if they have not already tried!

Agree with your conclusion on the PRO1, I have seen some prints made by professional print makers and they are as good as anything we see here from any of the manufacturers.

One of these days I must get my head around ARC chips and their use and application, I THOUGHT that I had some idea of their application, but now I realize I know nothing about them really.

Thanks for the feedback on the Pro1, much appreciated.

Cheers,

Andrew

All of them! LOL
3dogs,

About ARCs at least when it comes to Canon printers, I am running them on OEM PGI-9 carts for the PRO9500MKII series. The start out as full, they will count down the ink usage and reset by either removing and reinserting the cart back in, by turnt the printer OFF and then back on. Or really, by ANY powere interruption to the chip.
With a Canon of course you must be careful of not running a head dry.

Hi Joe can I asked you,
how come you havent switched back to using all OEM chips with this new resetter for your PGI-9 cartridges yet.

It took me a little while to stop pulling out my grey and black cartridges to check their ink levels
every time I turned on my printer, now I find it so much easier..
:thumbsup

I've learned to get along very well with the ARCs and I never turn off the printer so I can use the driver ink monitor. If I do loose power which is seldom, then I just retop all the carts just to make sure.
I just have not wanted to plunk the almost $80 for the resetter. Maybe I will in the future as I still have another new on in the box with a full set of OEM carts. I have to actually check to see what I did with my OEM chips on the two sets I am currently using.
