Would someone please clarify something for me. I recently repaired an MF217w. What puzzles me is that the page counter read: "74" after, I'm guessing at least a few thousand pages were printed in total.
I know most lasers have a reset function, but I thought that was generally intended for service techs. and not supposed to be common knowledge. However, I discovered this printer had a way to do a page count reset from the control panel, in a fairly easy and obvious way. Why would Canon do that? And why would a user want to reset total page count.
Even more strangely, a Canon support rep. told me there's no way to know what the actual total page count is once a reset is done. Is this correct? If so, why would Canon make this design decision?
