In service manual for i9950 says that is:
Product life
The value from (i) to (iii), whichever comes first.
(i) 10,000 pages of color printing
- Color: 7.5% duty per color pattern printing, A4
(ii) 1,200 discs of CD-R/DVD-R printing
- On a basis of monthly print volume of approx. 20 discs
(iii) 5 years of use
(2)
Print head
10,000 pages of color printing
- Color: 7.5% duty per color pattern printing, A4

How much is this true, from experience somebody?
Mine have 8500 pages.
Can printer and head usually do more pages or less of 10 000 before failure.?
In best case with OEM inks and every day use.

If your printer has 8500 total prints on it at present I would keep a good on the waste ink counter also, with 8 cartridges there’s bound to be a lot of gunk in the pads so watch out for leaks on the desktop..

The absorber counter is the D-value found in both the EEPROM info print and service test print from service mode. The D-value is a percentage of used absorber capacity. A D-value of 0% means the absorber contains no ink and a D-value of 100% means the absorber is completely full.

I think a D-Value of 28% doesn't match a total printed page number of 8500, so I think the previous owner of the printer at some time resat the absorber counter. Hopefully he or she also changed or cleaned the absorbers, else there is a risk of an ink spill from the printer at some time in the future.

I will keep eye on desktop, also I think that is better, EEPROM says, that is 8100 pages was printed on plain paper.
In mine mind is to buy another i9950 with failure head (5 times orange blink) for replacement parts, is that good, can I possible need some parts in future or that is throwing a money. It is not expensive, for compare like 3 OEM inks :). I would like to invest in 9950 printer, because I think that newer are not better. From your opinon do I have wrong?

You won’t need any replacement parts; this is a tuff old printer and well built, save your money and get a spare print head instead..

see updated numbers below:

my printing experience is limited to my 6+ year old MP830s. according to the MP830 service manual, it has a product life max of 5 years or a max of 19,000 pages printed. now at 49,732 pages printed, looks like i may be on borrowed time.

#1 MP830:
- 12/2007 - new MP830, new print head
- 04/2010 - replaced print head after 20,000 pages printed
- 06/2010 - logic board died after 22,500 pages printed, salvaged print head and ink carts

#2 MP830:
- 06/2010 - new MP830, swapped over print head and ink carts
- 02/2012 - replaced print head after 20,000 pages printed
- 03/2013 - replaced waste pads and cleaned print head when it hit 95% usage, 37,500 pages printed - pics at http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=8546
- 07/2013 - TOTAL PAGES at 41,000 pages
- 02/2014 - 49,732 pages printed, waste pad 34% used, on my second set of waste pads

i do take my 5+ year old canon printer for granted, i just load paper and refill in a few min. they keep going and going.

FYI, been refilling for 6+ years, german method w squeeze bottles, now at over 500 refills.

wish they made the new printers/carts like these older models ....

any other numbers ?

J

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Printers: Canon MP830, IP4500, MX700, MX860, MX870, MP980
• Method: German Durchstich Method
• Ink: Hobbicolors and OCP
• Misc: Squeeze bottles - so much easier than syringes

Only I would like to have another i9950 is because logic board. Always I can buy new print head. Can I buy logic board?
It is good to see this encourage numbers Jimbo. From your case, the Canon put numbers in service manual just to be sure that everything would be OK, but they build good machine (MP830) with triple life.

You have made an inkjet printer enter laser territory, I'm really impressed :thumbsup

Your numbers prove that good refill technique, good inks and regular use are keys to inkjet printer longevity. :clap

For home use I think the PGI-5/CLI-8 generation of printers was the best Canon made. :)

When a Canon print head fails there is a risk that the failed print head damages the logic board. A damaged logic board can ruin a new print head, so swapping print heads between printers for troubleshooting or testing is a very risky procedure, that should be avoided!

A spare printer, even defunct, is useful as a source of mechanical spares and switches and sensors. You can also practise taking it apart and cleaning the absorbers. That way you will have a cleaned set of absorbers, when they are needed in the other printer.

I don't know where you are located, but here in Denmark the price of a new Canon OEM cartridge varies from around DKK 80 to DKK 120 or in USD around 15-22 $. These prices make refilling with good refill inks a good way of saving a lot of money.

I would not pay much more than "½ OEM" for a printer with a known burned out print head. Try to tell the seller that a defunct logic board will most likely kill a new print head, so the printer is only good for mechanical spares.
