I was wrong when I commented that microporous coated paper might cause problems with pigment inks. See link on the paper supplier site that I use.

http://www.photopaperdirect.com/blog/?p=118

It seems that they can absorb the pigment particles.

Gday Martin. How do I keep you in the loop? Do you mean to email you or is there some way to alert you through this forum?
Sorry Rod, got stuck offline owing to Chicken Pox (my sons) for a week so it's been one hell of a month..

Anyway, was thinking email but publicly on the forum helps too... Been scan reading so far but will catch up when I can.

Hope your Son is feeling better Martin but surely my bronzing problem is far more important:)
Joe your video looks great, I could only watch the first part before I had to go out so I will look at it when I get back. I'm sure I will have a few questions for you.

All of them! LOL
Thanks Rod, the final results are really great and to think that I was going to get rid of that printer!

I did try to explain it to him Rod but for some reason he felt that blowing a raspberry was more appropriate... He's doing good now though.. Kids bounce back fast!

Would like to add my own thanks for the video as well...

Regarding the GLOP's you're testing... Were you aware of the Krystal TopKote brand from IS as well?:

Martin the IS page said "Krystal TopKote For all Epson and Lexmark printers, and HP printers using HP51645A cartridge" I can't see why they restrict its use to to these brands & a particular cartridge. I would think you could squirt this stuff out of any cartridge or brand unless the thermal heads in the Canons boil the stuff & make it useless.
I'm thinking the spray on optimisers might be the cheapest way out unless you have a spare printer that will work.

I'll ask IS about that but I'm sure there will be a reason, most likely along the lines of what you've just guessed at... Perhaps nozzle size?

True but then you have to run with figuring out how to get an even finish so it's horses for courses..

Doubtless there would be more than a few folks with an old Epson 1290, 1400 or similar sitting around begging for a reason to be of use again... before a wife or significant other makes demands for trips to landfill :)

The HP51645A (HP45) is constructed very similarly to the PGI-9. A bladder and spring arrangement. The difference is that the HP45 held a whopping 42ml of ink inside. Knowledge of the 45 would likely be reserved for the old timers of refilling. Indeed it is likely that a set of well cleansed PGI-9 may well be ok to use....though yopu'd need to flush the printhead to ensure no coloration as the 45 held its own printhead.
