Pro -100 Starting use of refilled carts

Good Day All, I have a question about using refilled carts AFTER the setup carts that came with the printer are exhausted. Is there anything that needs to be done to the print head before loading the refilled carts? Like flushing, etc? Or is it ok to just load and go?

No problems except for yellow cartridges. Be sure that one is thoroughly flushed of all OEM ink prior to refilling to prevent the dreaded 'yellow jello' problem.

If you have any issues with the CLI 42 refills just try the compatible instead. We always found the compatible ink was just as good as refills for this type of Canon cartridges ...and is usually cheaper than the refilled cartridges. Compatibles are just generic brands rather than refilling OEMs

The best carts for refilling are always OEM, and all dough aftermarket carts are a great alternative for saving money, you still need to be careful not to get the cheapest carts because their inks are universal and are totally rubbish.. (Coloured water)

Only purchase from known ink suppliers and beware of the Free P&P artists, that’s a dead giveaway...

Yes, well...

As has been discussed, debated, and proven here on many occasions,
OEM carts are truly the best. Whether you replace or refill, the OEM carts
are physically superior to aftermarket carts.

Refill procedures are fully discussed and covered here for OEM carts;
they have proven to be more reliable and longer-lasting,
and they are far less prone to failure.
There are plenty of reasons Canon have engineered the carts to be
what they are, and deviating from those reasons is likely to cause troubles,
whether long-term or short-term.

Refilling actually tends toward the less-costly end, due to the initial
expense being mitigated over more refills than replacement generics
can provide.

As mentioned above, it is the Yellow which needs special attention.
If reusing a CLI-42Y, ensure a thorough clean using Windex or another
solution with some ammonia content and follow with clean water.
A search of CLI-42 Yellow on this forum alone will offer many discussions
about what actually works, and the process is fairly simple and easy.

Also, as mentioned by @The Hat , there are far higher-quality inks
out there than the more 'generic' suppliers. It doesn't take long browsing
this forum to learn that Precision Colors and OctoInkJet are two of the
most-frequently mentioned and recommended by a vast number of the
long-time experts who frequent this fine forum.
