@RogerR .. As you see by yourself, dye inks don't age very well. Early or late they are prey to algae, fungi, UV, heat...
Pigment inks have a much better longevity (if they're good quality). You can use Canon pigment carts expired ten years ago without any problem. Just remember to shake well the bottle or cartridge before using it.
