I have successfully used the purge unit test posted by @turbguy , both to find and correct a disconnected hose (window cleaner didn't stay on the purge pad when it should) and a blockage in the purge system (window cleaner didn't get sucked away when it should). I recommend the test and I think the instruction is clear. The purge unit is vital in keeping the print head in good working order.
Beware of YouTube videos. Some are made by helpful people who know their stuff, but others are made by people with wrong ideas about how the printer works. Even worse, some videos are deliberately wrong, made to cause damage. See this and this thread.
