I see the Pro1 price in the UK is starting to be discounted. Park Cameras offered it at 445 this last holiday weekend, with cashback, although they didn't get their sums right!

I got mine in Park Cameras last year for 679 (In a sale) so 445 is a considerable saving even with the incorrect maths.

The Pro 1 is indeed an excellent Photo printer but youd want to have very deep pockets to run this monster properly
it also needs a huge working space, joking aside, its a real money pit.

You are further restricted to using OEM ink and paper only to get the finest results from it,
otherwise you might as well get some other printer thats more accommodating, flexible and affordable.

Then there is the dreaded waste ink cartridge to think about, its going to cost and arm and a torso to get it replaced
(Back to Canon Service) so if you dont sell your prints then my advice is dont buy one.

Would I buy another one not on your life, I reckon the Pro 9500 is a far better printer in terms of its flexibility,
it may be a bit slower but you can print anything you like on it,
paper and ink are your own choice plus refilling the OEM cartridges could not be easier..

Hi One and All, this is my first post on this excellent forum :)

I see Park Cameras are doing the Pro-100 for 339, so with the current 50 rebate that would mean I would end up paying 289. A good buy I think and I'm very very tempted indeed.

Are Park Cameras a good company to deal with? in the event anything goes wrong?

In honesty I could buy either the Pro 1, Pro 10 or Pro 100 but think the Pro-100 would fit my needs best...less clogging, easier to source ink...and I'm not massively worried about archival performance of dye inks. From what The Hat says, the Pro-1 sounds like it'd be a small fortune to run...not least a beast of burden to keep working well.

I'm wondering if it would be better to buy from a local camera shop so I could take it back to them rather than post a mega heavy printer.

Thanks in advance :)

Park Cameras are a very reputable store and are just about the best around for all electronic sales,
however if you have a problem with a brand new Canon printer, the store cannot help in any way
other than to point you to your nearest Canon service centre.

My advice to you would be to purchase your new printer from the cheapest place you can get it from,
it really doesnt matter where you buy it, because they dont normally provide any repairs on printers.

These three Canon Pro printers youve mentioned dont suffer from clogging at all
and the only place to source proper 3rd party inks from for the Pro 100 right now is Canada.

The Pro 1 is just about the best B&W printer there is at present bar none,
but it has to use OEM inks and paper to achieve its well deserved crown..

Hi The Hat

Thanks for your very helpful reply.

I feel the Pro 100 would be best price/quality/spec ratio for me and in fact I've decided to buy one this coming Saturday...hooray. After many years of procrastination I'm finally going to upgrade my Epson 740 hehehe. I paid 156 for it too many years ago to remember. The Pro 1 costs of running would render it to be a possible future upgrade if I felt the need maybe. Even though I could initially afford any of the three, I don't want to be cringing afterwards at the price of inks/paper each time I slightly miss the mark with print quality etc. I love printing! but hate having to be mega careful with tiny test strips...as per photographic printing on a small budget.

Even though I could get the Pro 1 for about 550 including rebate I'm not at all keen on being tied to Canon's ink and paper prices. I haven't been able to see a deal on the Pro 1 less than that, despite Emulator's initial post about Park Cameras doing it for 445 recently.

Unfortunately Park Cameras don't currently have the Pro 100 in stock and my local camera store currently have three, so I guess my keenness to get printing is overriding saving just a few quid. Plus I feel okay about supporting my local shop to some extent. I've also just ordered a 32oz refill ink kit from Precision Color for $68 -which of course is way cheaper than even a single set of genuine Canon inks. The Canon deals in the USA seem amazing value to me...really amazing. I'll be getting the 50 rebate with my Pro 100 purchase but it doesn't come close to the US deals does it.

I can't remember where I read someone saying about maintenance on the Pro 1 and its pigment inks, I must have the wrong end of the stick. Apologies to all the very happy Pro 1 owners out there.

Thanks again

I see Wex Photographic, another reputable firm, is offering free UK delivery on the Pro 1 at 545, Pro 10 at 424 and Pro 100 at 329.

The Hat was not happy with the refillability of the Pro 1 (I would be interested to hear of the technical issues), but what about the Pro 10. I gather the Pro 100 is OK.

I was very happy with the Pro 1 when I first got it but as time went by there was no 3rd party supplies
coming on stream for it (2 years now); no proper inks, no ARC chips or resetter and only one place to get compatible expensive ink from.

The ink tanks are very easy to refill but it was the waste ink that was my biggest nemesis,
not having proper ink monitoring meant it dumped a lot of expensive ink into the waste cartridge,
which was filling up far too fast and needed some attention. (Ouch)

I can say without a dough that the Pro 1 is a mighty professional printer that any photographer
would only be too happy to have and use, its only pit fall is its running costs but then all professional photo printer
are very much the same in that respect, and may I say I dont do photography.

The Pro 10 is again a better printer than the Pro9500 BUT it too suffers from the lack of 3rd party supplies,
there is no ARC chips or resetter but it is so simple to refill its OEM cartridges,
the down side is you have to make do with ink set from the 9500 with adjustments.

The Pro 100 has more going for it in that there is ink available for it right now
but theres no resetter as yet but refilling the cartridges are as easy as the CLI-8s (The same).

Its a bit of a dilemma as to which one to go for right now because all three have their own little quirky preferences
and none of them are the very same, the best option is the Pro 100
but you have too remember its uses only dye ink which may give some problems to users down the road.

My first vote goes to the Pro 100 printer for its magnificent glossy photos
and my second goes to the Pro 9500 because right now its still in a class of its own, (Both very affordable).:)

Thanks to The Hat, for a clear review of the current position for all new purchasers.

I guess you will be fitting an exhaust pipe to the Pro1 and eventually the inks and resetter will become available, but only Canon will be able to improve ink monitoring. I suppose by any chance you haven't got a faulty one?

Thanks for both your comments in this thread. As a new buyer your help is invaluable to me I can assure you and it's much appreciated.

The Wex Photographic price is what I'm paying for the Pro 100 on Saturday so I'm happy. I'm really looking forwards to trying out different papers too. There's an extreme range of prices from cheapo 5 for 25 sheets up to over 100 for the same amount...I guess I'll be having fun sorting out which papers are my favourites.

I didn't know the Pro 100 cartridges are very similar to the CLI-8's...that's useful to know as I can now look up some Youtube refill videos for a bit of background research.

Does the Pro 100 have the waste tank The Hat mentions is on the Pro 1? It sounds like a PITA and expensive to sort out.

Speaking generally, I hope the independent ink/refill tank/chip resetter companies get into gear re the Pro 1, 10, and 100 series printers...with a bit of luck the excellent deals that are out there at the moment will spur them on with the increased demand from the larger consumer base...finger's crossed. Saying that, I bet Canon have Mk2 versions of things waiting in the wings! :)
