Pro-1, banding issue on glossy/semi glossy paper

Hi. So I'm having an issue with banding on my print. The degree of visible banding are dependent on the picture and on the size of paper used.


I noted that the problem only occours when using a profile for glossy or semi-glossy paper however the banding are consistenly wrong (exact same banding when printing the same picture on the same size paper).


This leads me to believe that its a software issue!


I have tried upgrading/downgrading both firmware and drivers, both with no prevail.


I have also tried using both comparable Canon ICC-profiles and original profiles from the paper manufacturer.


Furthermore I have done a cleaning cycle on all the nozzles and aligned the printing head. Testpages looks fine.


I have attached some pictures of the prints with banding, both overall and close-ups.


Can anybody explain to me what the problem is? - I have been trying to fix it for a couple of weeks now and I don't know what to do anymore.

I have posted the same question on the Canon Community forum but I'm thinking that you guys probably have some better suggestions to what might be wrong or any workarounds to the problem.

Welcome to the forum, Frederik.

Only print nozzle checks or something specifically requested by a member till the issue is resolved.

Please print, crop and post a nozzle check.

What ink and cartridges do you use?

Have you tried different new or known working cartridges?

First of, thank you for your reply and your initial advice!

I have printed multiple nozzle checks and as far as I can tell they all came out fine - nice and solid colors. I can print out a new one and post a picture (?), but I don't think you will be able to see much, as I mentioned in the original post the banding only occurs when printing using glossy or semi-glossy printer profiles.

I use original OEM cartridges and about half of them are brand new - switched out the ones that were empty when I got the printer (used).

I don't know if the catridges are working, but seeing as they are all original OEM catridges I would think that they should be working.

As I mentioned - the fact that 1.) the banding occurs in the exact same way when using the same profiles/papers and the fact that 2.) the banding does not occur when using a printer profile for "normal" or "common" paper (this is true even when printing on semiglossy 310gsm photo paper).

It should be an issue with the printer profiles, right?

Let me know if you still want a photo of my nozzle check - I probably have to wait until I can get proper daylight to get the colors even remotely close :)

Seeing as the issue occurs with both the original Cannon profiles and 3'rd party manufacturers profiles (using Tecco and Sihl paper) it could be a problem with the software utilization of photo paper profiles specifically and not the profiles themselves?

I have printed a nozzle check. I can post it tomorrow when I have daylight to help me out - I don't own a scanner so I have to take a photo :)

Its not that I am unwilling to print/photograph a nozzle check but I feel that I once again must underline that this problem only occurs when using specific profiles for glossy and semi glossy paper. Anyway I will post a photo of the nozzle check tomorrow.

The nozzle check is baseline information we use in figuring out issues like your. It's happened before that the OP was wrong about their nozzle check being proper. Maybe you are correct. We still want to see it. It is helpful to us.

What are the specific papers and ICC profiles you are using that this issue arises?

So basically all the ones I have tried so far for glossy or semi glossy paper.

Using a standard profile for common paper (even on semi glossy photo paper) does not produce this issue.

Just tried the "prevent paper abrasion" and "matte photo paper" profile. and the issue persists :/

Seems like its not just glossy/semi glossy paper profiles but also profiles for matte paper. So basically any profiles for photo paper...
