yes, X-Rite software requires a calibration of the spectro frequently, effectively before every scan. As long as that is done automatically - I'm using the i1iO robot arm it is a matter of a few seconds but I killed a switch on a i1Pro spectro at the time I was doing the scanning manually for that reason. (I replaced that microswitch on my own). The question behind all that is the question how much the readings of the instruments are drifting if you don't do that calibration that often - I don't have an idea, it may probably lead to some (small) shifts in the profiles .

There will be a new software based on Argyll color engine released "soon". I have to do some testing under industrial working conditions in a few weeks to verify the "superority" of Argyll vs. Colordata and xRite software.
