Print head is locked

My Canon Pixma MP780 says "wrong cartridge" which I read is probably the print head; however, the print head is locked at the far right side of the printer so I can't access it. Any ideas how to get the print head to move?

You will have to dismantle your printer to be able to remove the cartridges and then the print head. Hopefully, after you put it back together without the defective print head, the carriage will move to the center and ask for the print head. Usually a new print head will get your printer going again.
