I woke up to my freind already refunding me in full, she said I had already done more than i should have to have done a felt horrible that I did. I'll have to ship it back to her in the next few days so she can file a claim with the shipper.

At her request I'm going to stop fiddling with it since it looks like without a complete tear down or inmersion clean I am SOL. I still don't think that will fix the end of life code is seems to have wanted to throw at me. I can't seem to find a aftermarket ink reset for this one aside from Epsons.

She's showing me examples with her Canon, but I'm up for more suggestions printerwise. I'm at a 400ish budget right now. I would love something wifi, and better at matte printing. I will print photos ocasionally but this will be for my own personal artwork prints.

So the Canon dye based inks are not archival and fade over time? Would a spray over UV cut sealant help that or am I better off with a pigment based printer?

All of them! LOL
Here are some photos.
ETA: If i cant get it figured out by the 30th i may do the Pro 100 deal. Jtoolman, what do you see as the drawback for printing artwork?

Art work or ANY type of image intended to be printed on Water Color Paper should really be printer on a pigment based printer.

Though the PRO-100 does a marvelous job printing on just about any media stock from glossy to satin, it's not really designed to print on matte as the normal dye black may not be able to produced as strong a deep black on Matter papers as a dedicated Matte Black Pigment ink would.

Not to mention the reduced longevity issue with pretty much any dye based printer. Great for stock with a sheen but not great for longevity.

Looking at my options, the Epson artisan 1430 seems to be in my budget, no rebates but I feel reading more of what you are saying (and have written on other sites jtoolman you are everywhere!) this would be a better pick.

What do you think?

And now doing more reading, the artistan is dye based too. Maybe I just need to save up for an Epson r2000 and hope for a rebate.

I have a R2000 and have had great experience with it.
One huge bonus with this particular printer is that you can actually get OEM ink sets ( yes complete sets of inks ) on EBAY at an average of $24 a set.
WHY?
This it the latest printer that is being used in the direct to garment printing industry ( T-Shirt Printing )
These folks will buy these printers by the dozens and remove the printheads to use in their modified R2000 as the inks that they use for printing on Cotton material is not too friendly to the print heads. So they constantly need to install new print heads. Thus the cannibalizing of these r2000 print heads.

They end up with lots of sets of OEM inks they can't use. So they go on sale on EBAY.

Consider that in your choosing.

Here is an example:

Great!
After you have the printer you will hand to install an external bottle or Printer Potty from octoinkjet.uk to collect all you waste ink that will generated while using rather than have it be dumped into your brand new waste ink pads.

It's a pretty simple modification and will same you from ever having to worry about waste ink pad replacement.

I also have the actual Adjustment Programs for the R2000 ( the one techs use to reset it ) not the freeby EPSON one which only does a partial reset.

The Printer Potty is the best thing since sliced bread. You can install it without any physical modifications to the printer to maintain your warrantee.
It's not really a problem but it is a fact of printing.
Waste ink has to be managed somehow and I would prefer to collect it externally than have the printer dump it internally.
