Please Help, Epson 1400 Cannot Recognize Ink Cartridges

Hi
Im owner of Epson photo 1400 inkjet printer for about year. Using CISS all time.
Yesterday, suddenly printer refuses to recognize ink cartridges (all of them). Red lamp is lighting for ink.
So far I have tried :
1. Tried pressing CISS button several (in ink change process)
2. Tried to turn off printer for some time, turn it again, nothing,same problem
3. Tried to reset it with adjustment program (ink waste pad reset, inital reset), same problem.
4. Tried to replace ink cartridges, compatibles, also tried 791-6 Refillable Cartridges, nothing (these cartridges are tested in P50, working perfectly)
5. Tried several youtube tutorials, nothing
6. Tried to replace CSIC (taken from RX585) since they have same connector, nothing
7. Tried to disable "status monitor"
8. Tried to update the firmware (older one), still same problem
9. Tried the websnails metod, didnt solve problem
10.Replaced motherboard , problem is solved.

But,one strange thing, as soon I remove one cartridge (no matter witch one), status monitor "cartridges information" give me error that only one is missing,and reading other five ok.


Also, i have AR1273 firmware.
I have read here about firmware update, how can I do this

Based on everything you've said I'd say your CIS chips are faulty and need replacing but a few other things to check out:

1. Clean the CIS chips of any grease, ink and check alignment
2. Carefully examine all the contact wires (that normally touch the CIS/cartridge chips) for any fluff, damage, etc...
   
3. If you spot any problems in 2. such as soiling then very carefully use cotton buds (the things you use to clean your ears) and some water to gently clean the wires. These wires are extremely delicate so take your time and ensure nothing on the bud can catch the wires or it's game over!

My guess is that you'll need to contact your CIS supplier and get a replacement set of ARC chips to resolve the issue but the above may help.

As you can read in post, n.4., I have tried EPSON refillable cartridge with ARC (witch I have previously tested on epson P50 - working), same problem

Sorry, my bad for not paying attention to your original post.

I have to admit that is very odd behaviour indeed. It's a long shot, but could you try disabling the Status monitor software and seeing if that is somehow affecting the way the printer is behaving?

I'm sorting out a PM for you as well regarding one other point you raised.

I have tried to disable Status monitor, same thing, I think this monitor doesnt affect the problem because when printer is not connected to PC , "ink" lamp is on, so it cannot recognize ink with or without PC. I have updated post. thanks

A belated update to this but I realised an experience I went through a couple of weeks back with a PX720WD might be relevant.

We'd reset the waste ink counter on the thing and then installed a set of refillable cartridges but the printer kept refusing to recognise one or more of them. It was made even more weird when we removed all the cartridges and then installed a set of OEM cartridges that the customer had purchased. The printer refused to accept some of these either!

In the end I spent something like 45 minutes checking for issues with the chip contacts and similar only to fall back on trying to install the cartridges one at a time in various orders.

For whatever reason, we finally got the printer to accept the cartridges by going with a routine that installed one cartridge at a time (closing the cartridge bay between each) but in a non linear order.

Unfortunately because we were trying everything I didn't make a note of the order we put the "successful" cartridge insertion in, but I believe we ended with the two carts that were showing as problematic which seemed to be Magenta and Light Magenta more than anything else.

Basically, try removing all the cartridges and then insert them in different orders, closing the cover between each insertion.

If you can, make a note of the orders that don't work to avoid repeating yourself.


It's a bit random but we only found out because it made no sense that the OEM's were being refused too.

I dont quote understand, basically i need to put one catrige, press ink button, close lid, wait, than press ink button again and put second catrige ... repeat process ? pls, correct me if Im wrong ?

Update:

I have tried that, nothing . So I ordered a new motherboard, now the printer is working perfectly , cost of new motherboard is big but it is worth since 1400 is rare edition.

Hi. it's a little bit late To try maybe, but who have an issue with ciss not recognizing can try my solution. First of all remove the ciss while the Printer is off. Than restart Printer without any cartridges inserted. Reinstall ciss again and ciss will recognized. The point is never remove or change cartridges while Printer is offline. Hope this will help
