This is a weird one...I pulled out the electric plug from the socket as I had a big paper jam.

Now she won't start but the LCD screen is lit showing just the CANON logo. It won't switch
off by pressing the on/off switch. The only way to switch off is by switching off
the power supply at the wall. The printer doesn't calibrate when it's switched on and
nothing happens at all.

Normally when I switch on I get the COPY PRINT SCAN message. I don't get anything.

When I open the top cover the cartridge carrier is in the rest position on
the right hand side but that doesn't move.

I spoke to Canon support in UK and they said I should send it in for repair. I won't do that
because it only cost me £99 two years ago. I would happily buy a new printer (TS8350) but you just can't
find a store that has stock in UK. There seems to be a big shortage at present. Plenty of HP's available
though but I don't like HP printers.

Anybody have any ideas about this problem? I personally think the motherboard is dead.
Maybe there's another solution. If so you will make an old man a very
happy one.

Cheers

Peter

Ouch, what you have done there may have caused a cardiac arrest, because paper jams need to be treated with care and caution all at the same time.

Jammed paper needs to be removed in the direction it was traveling before it got stuck, its best if really stuck to remove it in small pieces and then those piece can be removed out backwards.

There is a lot going on inside your printer where there are many sensors and switches and if one of them is moved blocked or damaged, then the printer remains dead till this issue is resolved.

I’d suggest you go back into the printer from the rear and check carefully for obstructions or remaining bits of paper, a piece of heavy card 5cmx29cm inserted in by the paper tray and out the front side may also clear the paper path and cause a reset..

Thanks for your suggestions, I have tried as you say and cant find any paper residue lurking in the printer. It all looks quite normal. There is power going into the printer as the LCD screen is on showing the CANON logo but no more. I think it could bre a software issue. I may end up buying another and selling or keeping this for parts. Thanks for your help.

Did you try to get in the service mode?
push the resume button with the red triangle. Without releasing push then the power on button. Wait two seconds, release the resum button still having the power button pressed. Now press the resume button five times. Each time a LED will go on or out, depends on the printer. After that release the power button. Hopefully something happens. Wait a few minutes, than just press the power button To switch the printer off. restart your printer now.
Good luck.

Unfortunately, the printer has only a LCD touch screen so there isn't a separate button only the on/off button. Modern technology :( Thanks for your input.

They don’t make it easy.
turn printer off
press power button and don’t release
press on the display on the upper left corner for approximately 5 seconds
the display should now turn on
hopefully you see now the red triangle in the upper right corner.
tap it immediately five times
the display turns dark grey you are in service mode
to end service mode just shut down the printer by pressing the power button
here is a German Video

I had already good luck with it when a printer was stuck. It seems that entering service mode also resets some errors. I have now a MG5655 on the desk and I could clear some errors, unfortunately not all. The printer moves the head, seams to do cleaning and it sounds all a little bit different to the startup in normal mode. Maybe also sensors are checked. At least the printer powers up what sometimes does not happen in normal mode. It's worth a try.

I tried it, and no luck. When the screen is on it constantly shows the CANON logo. I can't power off using the on/off button. It remains on all the time until I have to pull out the power plug.
Worth a try and thank you for your help.
