Pixma Pro9500 problem

Hello, my printer worked and then I accidentially sent 2 print jobs at once and now the blue and orange led flash alternating together with the error mesage 9200 but grayed buttons for canceling the print job. The printer is not doing anything anymore, the printhead does not move and the cartrige leds don't light up or anything else. The whole printer is software blocked. I tried to reset the printer with pressing the cancel button and holding power and pressing cancel agian. The leds indicate that the operation was correct but it does not change anything. I unplugged the printer for an hour, but that didn't help either. It would be very frustrating if the printer is done because I made a slight software mistake. I cleared everything from the PC site and tried other PCs aswell.

Welcome to the forum, Jannis. Sorry to hear about your Pro9500 problem.

I do not think the issue has anything to do with print jobs. Instead, this is probably a bad cartridge or a failed print head. Hi @Jannis, @stratman is correct, it’s got nothing to do with your 2 print jobs, the error message is directly related towards your print head, so count how many time the LED lights are flashing when you first power on.

When this happens there’s not much you can do externally, but you may have some luck with this solution, first try opening the top lid and then powering on the printer, and watch the print head carefully, if it lifts (Moves upwards slightly) pull the power plug as fast as you can.

This should un-lock the print head and then enable you to move the head by hand to the middle of the carriageway, which will give you access to remove the cartridges and print head, then power off the printer with the power button.

You should try powering on the printer without the print head installed and see what message you get on screen, if you get an error message then your logic board may have developed a fault, don't put back your cartridges, yet

I reckon that’s enough for you to deal with for now, please come back with an update...

Ok I took out the print head and it seems to work normally as it displays the error that the printhead is missing. The printhead sled is moving again. But if I put back the printhead without cartridges it prompts the same error and it stops moving. There is no blink code at the startup it just alternates between the blue and orange. Maybe a short single blue flash? probably not. Why did the printhead stop doing anything all of a sudden. It seems weird to me. So I have to clean it now and when that fails I have to invest 100€ for a replacement? Could it be a problem with an empty cartridge too? Thank you stratman and The Hat for the quick responses.

Hi @Jannis, No heads can fail anytime, but if you have been running the machine with one or more of the cartridges empty, then that will surly cause an electricail failure, Canon print head must have ink in all the channels at all times, otherwise they over heat and fail.

Don’t clean the head at this time, it won’t do any good and might even make the problem worse, a new head will fix the problem, but try on EBay for a second-hand 9500 locally, that might be cheaper...

Alright. So can I try to buy new cartridges and test if that works or should I really buy a new 9500 printer? I am afraight that there are no pro 9500 around and it would be cheaper to buy a new head.

Whatever you do, your going to need ink, have you tried to refill the cartridges yourself, the PGl-9 cartridges are the easiest to refill than any other cartridge ever.

I got a second-hand Pro 9500 mkll bought for me in the Nederland’s at half the price of a new head, they are one of the best Canon printers and well worth their weight in gold...
