Goodday everybody!

Im here because im in dire need of help with the known troublemaker pixma pro-1 is.

lets start from the beginning, but dont worry, for there is a summary at the end

A couple of days a go i bought this printer used. Before buying the owner made 2 nozzle checks and everything seemed fine.
when i got home i let the machine rest for a bit and then turned on with more resting on idle. after a few hours i went ahead with a nozle check and it looked fine.
just in case, a simple cleaning was done, then another nozzle check, a few roller and bottom plate cleanings. after all this a two more simple cleanings and a final nozzle check. so far everything went wonderful. no problems with the drivers, no leaking, no strikes. all good.

the next day the fancy paper arrives. Since everything was working fine i went ahead with printing a test image from Datacolor. The first run I let everything in auto ( no software color management etc) and it printed really well. after this two more prints with different settings. all good.
During the 4th print is where everything started to go sideways.

in the middle of printing the machine just shut down, paper was halfway through. and when pressing the ON button nothing would happen. I pulled the cables and plugged everything back.
Now it turns on and it spitted the print out, of which only 2cm where printed.

I was on my mac and on the drivers I was getting error: 5204 and something that driver cannot connect to the printer

after a shutdown and unplugging everything again, the printer started with alternating 16 Flashes white and orange ( so 8 and 8)

then after researching here on the forum up and down, I cannot remember why ( it was a long night) at a point the printhead parked itself in the middle... still not knowing why ( running low on fumes) i took the print head out and had quick visual inspection: on the nozzles down on the brown pcb there was ink on the sides of the nozzles but didnt touch anything else.

after resetting it i was still gettin the 2x8 flashes (alternating ones). with more reading here, i went into service mode and the blinking errors changed to static white and 5 flashing orange: something with the printhead is not right.... awesome... at this point I got the service tool 3.4 and managed to get into service mode but when clicking on something like eprom test i would get error 009.

(oh btw, the ink compartments wouldnt open this whole time so i took the side panels)

Today after leaving unplegged the whole night, the situation didnt change but i managed to save the eprom!
while i was at it, i changeed 3 colors that the prior day where on low level. thinking that it might help. (oh btw, the ink compartments wouldnt open this whole time so i took the side panels off)
I cannot see the ink level now though a couple of grays where around 50%

if i pull the lid off to acces the PH the cariage moves in ts middle position and after closing it. it parks somwhere on the side.

now the beast is flashing white light only, the fan is on, but i cannot turn it off.

In summary:
- used printer was bought;
- 4 nozzle checks, a few rollers cleaning, 4 simple cleanings, head alignment. all good
- after 4th print test. machine went dark
- 16 alternating flashes: 8x white blinking, 8x orange blinkgin
- took out printhead
- still 16 alternating flashing -> Service mode showed white static + 5 Orange flash -> problem with printhead...ok
- Service tool 3400 code error 009
- eprom save as.
- white light blinking non stop. and printer wont turn off.

Please help!!

Congratulations on your fine purchase, but I have to ask why did you buy this printer when you already knew of its reputation as a trouble maker. (Which it didn’t deserve)

Your next mistake was running all these alignments and cleaning cycles which were totally unnecessary, because once you had a good nozzle check then you were ready to print.

Your last mistake was to remove the print head, that act in itself condemned the printer to the trash can, as you said, she was a known trouble maker, so why did you do your best to upset this beautiful beast.. The only issue she had was to consume a lot of ink..

Because this is the one printer you should never ever take out the print head unless the printer itself suggests or requests it, on screen, and will then move the head into the correct position.

I am sorry to tell you, but the printer is as good as dead, so move on and maybe get a Pro 10 instead, at least that way you can still use the remaining inks that you have left..

P.S. This was Canons first attempt at an AI printer, O’ it will now make a good door stop.. Sorry for breaking the bad news..

I got to know the undeserved reputation just last night ^^
Reading the other post floating around here they mention that after replacing a printhead theres a procedure to follow for resetting it? maybe using the service tool.
Id appreciate any more info on this resetting. Thanks!

regarding the alignments and cleaning, I read that after transportation especially on bumpy roads it would help.

Though the fact that it shutoff by itself is abit alarming... maybe some safety measure in case of overheating?

ops that was a bit unlucky..

No there are no procedures to follow and certainly not with a service tool, as I said the printer controls everything regarding the print head replacement, its fully automatic and it takes about twenty minutes before you can use the printer once again.

She is such a robust printer it would take more than a few bumpy roads to put her off her stride, it’s just a pity you won’t be able to experience the quality and performance of the printer..
Though the fact that it shutoff by itself is abit alarming... maybe some safety measure in case of overheating?
That was most likely caused by the print head temperature exceeding its limits..
The only thing that will save the printer is a new print head, which is very unlikely, they are as scarce as hens teeth..

Not ready to through the towel jut now ;)

Let me first ask why the the ink levels are not showing up anymore? also all the lights are off?
if Id put a fresh set of cartridges and follow the proper PH installation procedure would it be worth a try?

now to the part you wont like reading...
I completly open her up :D at this point was worth to know how it works for future reference
anyhow after i opened it i cleaned the gunk on the 3 little sponges where PH parks, also on the transparent cleaning plastic wipers (now the white wipers slide across much much better)
BUT while cleaning the flipping white plastic part in front of the pads, it slipped out :/ the little spring that moves the right most part dropped out and put it back as good as i could or so it seems because the mechanism on start up works well and the 16 alternating error code disappeared.
Though im not sure 100% the white plastic is sitting right....

Now upon turn it on, it does all its checks and i get the straight the 5 orange flashing errror. So printhead yeah?
again, if switch all the cartridges, take out the head, putt it back in and follow the right procedure, would it be worth a try?

heres the last eeprom errors: can you give more detail on 8100, 1261, 5205, 5204? thanks!
ER(ER0=1405 ER1=8100 ER2=1401 ER3=5205 ER4=5204

ER5=1261 ER6=1405 ER7=5204 ER8=1405 ER9=5204)

on a side note, in one of your threads you guys werent sure where the last error is written: the end or beginning? and i can say that the latest(newest) error gets the ER0 position and they slide over. also confirmed in the 9000 service manual.

second side note: 16 alternating blinkings flashing lights. Reading on the druckerchannel.de it says something with "valve pump error". is this the same thing you were talking about in this post here https://www.printerknowledge.com/threads/how-to-remove-pro-1-printhead.11180/post-107433

btw, im willing to try out a new set of cartridges

edit to attach some pictures and ask how come there ink droplets on the fan?
thanks!

If you are willing to try out a new set of cartridges, I suggest to also buy the service manual which is available here.

It might be a good idea to study the service manual for the error messages before spending money for the ink.
