My MP540 was working one day the next when switched on it appeared to be working OK except all it produced was blank sheets of paper with not a single drop of ink on them. If I use the copy mode it still produces blank sheets so the problem is with the printer not the PC. I removed and replaced the cartridges and the print head but its still u/s. Does anyone have any ideas ?
Thanks

The problem is caused by an electronic failure in the print head or the logic board in the printer. A new print head might get the printer working again, but it is a gamble to replace the print head.

A defective print head can damage the logic board and a damaged logic board can damage a new print head, so it is a risky procedure to replace the print head.

Some service manuals for newer Canon printers state that in case of a failed print head, both the print head and the logic board should be replaced.

For a similar printer failure see this thread: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=8571 . It perfectly describes the risk with print head replacement.

You may be lucky, that a new print head will revive your printer, but is it worth risking the cost of a new print head?

PeterBJ . Thanks for the advice . I guess its new printer time. I was quoted 82 to replace the print head and 119 for logic board. It only cost 70 to buy the printer.

Be very careful which Canon printer you go for, try to get one which has the CLI-525 cartridges and not the CLI-551.
Good Luck.. :)
