Hi, anybody out there know of a service engineers reset utility for resetting Canon pixma mg7550. I have a couple of service engineers versions that i used on the pixma mg5250 but i dont like to try those in case it bricks the printer.

@pixmania, If you have successfully reset your MG5250 then you should have no difficulty doing the same with your MG7550..

hi, the service tool i used on the mg5250 was version v320. Is the tool not specific to just that printer or are you saying its compatible with the whole pixma range. i've heard that if you use the wrong tool you can freeze/brick the printer.

It seems different cartridge generation printers need different methods for entering service mode. Different service tools might also be needed, newer versions seem to support most printers. See this post.

The MG7550 is of the PGI-x50/CLI-x51 cartridge generation, and I haven't seen any info about which procedure for entering service mode and which service tool should be used with this newest generation of printers.

Some suspect that a wrong procedure or service tool could block service mode operations.

Well ive tried every combination with v3200/v3400 and some sequences get me into the reset tool and allow use of tool button selection. But no luck with printing out eprom or resetting waste ink, just keep getting either of the afore mentioned error numbers!

@pixmania, the Service tool will not work on any printer till you have successful entered Service Mode, the fact you have touch buttons on a screen shouldn’t make any difference.

Try the button sequence once more but be careful how you release your fingers because the touch screen can be very sensitive, the 5 button method should be the one to use.

Please note:- If you have failed in your attempts to enter Service mode several times in succession, then the printer can lock the procedure so you can never enter Service Mode, and your only alternative is to return the printer to a Service Agent, Canon Inc. don’t like anybody other than their Agents using the Service Mode on any printer.

If you can get your printer into service mode then v3400 will work with your Canon model,

After successfully entering Service Mode the printer will take a few moments to settle down before it will accept any commands from your computer, so be patient, also you’ll need a USB cable and print driver for this operation, it won’t work with Wi-Fi..

I have found that if you are not in service mode the tool buttons are greyed out and not responsive when using the mg5250. It appears to be the same with the mg7550, greyed out buttons when not in service mode. The fact that the buttons are active and respond indicates in service mode. I run the service tool direct from my D: drive installed within the tower, was never a problem with the mg5250. What is error 006 that i constantly get when trying to print test or eprom using the tool? If your run the tool without being in service mode you will find the buttons are greyed out and unresponsive. Another point, the stop button doesnt light up until the machine is in ready to print mode. Holding in the power button leaves it undetectable!
