So this is a follow up to this thread:

http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=30500#p30500

So, when I print on regular paper it prints fine. But if I want to do B/W on glossy photo paper (and I select that paper on the printer) it turns the picture greenish.

Is it my photo black failing me? or is it the gray?

The photo black is full and is the original cartridge but it has been refilled twice. Thoughts? Solutions?

Thanks again all!

My MP600 will print greenish grey scales if I select photo paper, even with black and white originals, The only way I've found to overcome it is to select plain paper. Problem is this will use the PGI 5BK cartridge and you don't want that on photo paper.

Hi Polishadonis,

You did still not have answered my question about the nozzle check, because this could be the clue for your question.
How is the nozzle check of your printer and look at the photoblack (one stroke) and the grey (three strokes withe diminishing intensity): is the colour neutral ? Try to print the nozzle check on a piece of photo paper and see if the nozzle check gives you neutral black and greys. If not: then your ink is the problem.

The photos on the left are on setting; Plain paper and the one on the right is on setting; Photo paper. Both are actually on photo paper

This is the nozzle check, I think it is the gray that is the problem (bought the cheapest I could find). Looks green like the photo paper setting. But it also could be the photo black, or both.

Thank you

I don't think it's your gray as much as your missing the magenta 3 and 1 picoliter bands. Which means not as much magenta is landing on the lighter areas which will give it a greenish tint, same as turning the magenta slider down.

Qwertydude: I see 3 bands of magenta on the nozzle check printout 5, 3 and 1 picoliter bands are all available. Polishadonis: Does the MP980 have a special advanced B/W mode to omit the usage of the standard CMY colours and using the photoblack and grey ink only ? That should eradicate your greenish printout completely.

There is a b/w setting and I used that but there might be additional settings. I will check but this shouldn't happen anyways.

What I do not understand is the greenish/gray background printed with the pictures when you choose for photo paper. Why is this greyish background there ?

That might be slightly do to do with the selected intesity, but it was doing that on 0 intensity as well. I am so confused on what to do. I want to smash this stupid expensive printer. I thought if i get a highly reviewed printer that is more than the average $40 print I would get good results. I am so pissed

Fee Fi Fo Fum somebody's been messing with the contrast adjustment sliders on my calibrated monitor. I see it now. Your gray does not look very neutral. Kinda olive colored at least compared to your black. I think when you choose photo paper it increases gray usage which when using that very un neutral gray gives a color cast.
