Not sold on the megatank printers but the G550 seems a little bit interesting. It's a standalone photo printer with 6 inks including a red and grey. Obviously not up to pro standards but AFAIK it's the only Canon A4 photo printer with 6 inks.
Still not sold on the megatank or ecotank printers but would be interested to know if the Canon ink bottles can be refilled with non OEM ink. You can buy non OEM bottles on Ebay but god knows what ink they contain. Can these botlles be drained of ink and reused with quality non OEM ink?

Many thanks for your reply. The G550 seems to a decent cheap alternative to the Canon Pro. Do you agree?

Only if you are fine with A4 photo printing. With photos bigger is better.

Epson has dye inktanks that do A3+for not much more money than a G550 where I live.

Canon has the 4 ink pigment inktank! Canon TC20M which can do 24" rolls (!) but only with roll paper on 2" cores. Its limited to A3 sheets. Canon is trying very hard with market segmentation here, but maybe it will accept A1 photo paper by winding photo paper rolls onto a 2" core manually...

edit: typo, Canon TC20M not TA-20

You can get simple adapters for 3" rolls to use them on printers which normally take 2" rolls.

The Epson printers SC-T2100 or T33100 run as well with pigment inks like the TA-20, but have a better sheet feeder for A4 and A3. Single sheets in odd formats can be fed via the back of the printer.

I made a mistake on the model name, I was referring to the TC20M which is an inktank printer.
However although it is an inktank printer, the ink costs $65 / 70ml while pro-1000 ink costs $59 / 80ml...

There is a TA-20 printer with cartridges - 5 colors - photo and matte black - and there is the TC-20 running with 4 inks like a Megatank printer - all models with pigment inks - the M suffix stands for an additional A4 document scanner, there are slight differences for max. roll diameters, the TA-20 runs with 'Lucia' pigment inks , the bottled pigment inks are not named Canon-specifically, it is nowhere specified what the differences are. So there are plenty model variations to choose from
