PGI-9 Clear Cartridge refill

I've just bought some german clear ink for Pixma IX7000.
But I'm not too sure on how to proceed for refilling this cartridge...
Does anyone have any experience about it ?

Hi @Rbu and welcome.

First of all you didn’t need to buy new compatibles cartridge to refill, your current OEM cartridges are by far the best you could possibility use, and I would recommend you not use these newly purchased cartridges at all.

There are two ways of refilling the PGl-9 cartridges, one is to use a refill clip and inject the ink into the outlet hole using a syringe attached to the clip, and this is the fasted way of refilling.

The second way is to dribble the ink into the outlet hole until the cartridge is full, this way is easy but very time consuming if you have all the cartridges to fill in one go, both refill videos are below.

You’ll need a resetter for the PGl-9 carts and a separate resetter for the PGl-7 cartridge, don’t use ARC chips with these cartridges because they don’t have a prism inside them which protects the print head from damage..

In fact my problem is that the PGI9 Clear cartridge of the IX7000 is a bit different :

and all the methods I used on color cartridges doesn't seem suited for this type of cartridge :-(

I'm hesitating between piercing the top of the cartridge with my syringe or inserting it into the ink exhaust at the bottom ?!?

This PGl-9 clear cartridges is not part of the ink package and is completely separate from the print head, nor does it have a cartridge chip, but it can be refilled easy by inserting a blunt needle attached to a 60 ml syringe into the outlet.

You first draw off some air and then inject the clear Glop into the cartridge, just repeat this action till the cartridge is full, BUT…

There is no need to do that at all because this big OEM PGl-9 clear cartridges is far cheaper to purchase new than trying to source clear Glop from a 3rd party ink supplier, which causes paper jams if used. (Done that wore the Tee-shirt)

The OEM Glop is a far superior and thicker liquid than 3rd party Glop and should never be put into the print head cartridges, because when heated it will stick to the inside of the heads causing electrical damage..

By the way, if it worked it would be quite cheaper to refill cartridges with it than buying new ones (at least in Europe).

Apart of paper jam problems, what do you mean in your last paragraph ?
You suggest that using this Glop in PGI9-Clear cartridges may affect the printhead ??

Indeed, at about €10 for 191ml the OEM Clear tanks are not expensive and they last over 1000 pages.

Since they only are used for plain paper from the cassette, you can limit their use by directing (single side) prints to the rear tray and specify Ink Jet Hagaki paper (another tip from The Hat ).
I use "Double A" paper that is very smooth from itself and do not see much advantage using the Glop (at about 1ct/page as much as the paper itself).
And on cheap paper it is a waste.

But you have to use the cassette with the Glop for double side (and copying).

Where did you find it ?

beware: from these inks in my experience only matte black and magenta are usable on the IX7000/MX7600, stick to IS for yellow, cyan and photo black

I just ordered the PGI9-Clear. For colors and black cartridges I do not refill them, I order compatibles from "Prestige Cartridges" on Amazon UK, they are quite cheap and they do the job (100 000+ pages on my Canon printer).

I was just looking for a cheap solution for the Glop...

That's 3-4 times less than what I paid

CORRECTION: the PGI-9 ink sold on topcartouches is not pigment ink

I paid the 1000ml PGI9-Clear 52€ (including 6.5€ postage).
