Based on my own and other users experiences I start to believe there is no existing ink formula to fall back on for the Maxify (as wide format inks for PRO-9500/-1/-10/-300).
It is trial and error...

After reading all of the 40 pages about the Maxify 5350 I noticed the following post

Which made me suspicious of the ink type used in the Inktec inks. Only the black ink is pigmented. All other colors are dye (just as the Canon GI-490 inks).

@TheHat claimed that he used some HP (pigmented?) inks but their origin or number is unknown.
So by now it is clear that only the octopus fluids inks are all pigment inks (hence their price difference).
All the inks sold by Inktec for the Maxify are pigment. I haven't the slightest doubt about that because it's easy to spot the difference. Pigment inks look totally opaque inside a bottle and they're water fast with plain paper. Dye inks are transparent and not water fast at all with plain paper.

After I saw the comment by @stratman I looked closely to the description in the Octopus Inktec pages for the PGI-1500
(Since I am not sure if I can link directly to them I will refrain from doing so).

Only in the black ink do they clearly state that it is pigmented. Every other color does not have any info whether they are dye or pigment. So I sent them a question. Here is the response

"Hello, unfortunately the yellow ink from InkTec is only a dye-based ink, while the black ink from InkTec is pigmented. Best regards Your Octopus Team"

Now that you claim the exact opposite I do not know what is going on.

The Hat didn’t claim to be using HP inks at all, but what he is actually using is Chinese Compatible HP inks, there’s a big difference, I’d sooner use Canon ink rather than HP inks but both of these inks are to expensive to be using for my situation.. Hope this clears the air..

@TheHat Yes you are right and I apologise.....I meant to write inks for HP.... (pigmented or dye?)

@Ionlab, I never purchased from Octopus. Maybe they sell for Maxifys the same Inktec dye ink intended for regular Pixma printers. I’d think that a serious dealer as Octopus wouldn’t do that, but ...
If you purchase Inktec from sellers like printout24-de, they state clearly that all the inks sold for Maxify printers are pigmented. In my own experience, this is absolutely true.

See below two bottles of yellow ink for Canon printers. One is dye and the other pigment. Guess which is which.

Thank you for the clarification. I guess Inktek should have a product page that at least you could see each individual ink they are selling. Not scouring the web in order to get the relevant info

Something's fishy here.

Here is an Amazon listing that also claims Inktec Yellow Maxify ink is "Dye" and "Water-base" ink:

Ink: Dye Packaging: 100 ml Color: Yellow Manufacturer: InkTec Korea. Compatible with cartridges: CanonPGI 1400XL Compatible with printers: Canon MAXIFY MB2340 / MB2040 Water-based ink
https://www.amazon.co.uk/InkTec-Compatible-pgi-1400-Printer-Cartridges-Yellow/dp/B06XBP1M3X

YET... Inktec Australia lists ALL their Maxify inks as Pigment inks, even the Yellow.

https://store.inktec.com.au/collections/canon-1600-2600-series-inks?

So does this UK web site say all the Inktec Maxify refill inks are Pigment.

https://www.refillsupermarket.com/en/search?controller=search&s=PGI-1500+2500+INKTEC+Maxify

The UK, Australian and German web site's bottles look pretty much identical from what I can see.

Why does the German site Octopus say the Yellow Maxify ink is Dye-based? Maybe that's what they decided to sell. Maybe the person that answered the question is incorrect. Who knows. Maybe a call to S. Korea or to Octopus in Germany or to the UK website would clear things up.

It is kind of strange that the label on the Inktec Yellow states "Bulk Ink for" and then has gibberish on the Octopus site. Cannot tell if the same on the Australian site.

After more digging around I found a PDF from inktec that details they sell BOTH a Pigment ink and a Dye-based CYM inks for the Maxify line!

http://www.inktec.com/down/pdf/OA_v7.6.pdf

I thought Octopus and the UK web site were smoking crack. They are but not for the reason I thought - mistaking what ink they are selling. No, there mistake is selling the Dye-based version instead of the superior archival and more close to original OEM Pigment ink version.

I wonder if there are issues using the non-Pigment ink with the OEM Maxify cartridge?

I ignored my Spidey-sense tingle when I read the description of the Yellow on the Octopus site:

"Their colour appears more intense than that of the original ink."

Yes, Dye-based inks often appear "more intense" than their Pigment counterparts.

Aren't they the clever ones. ;)

FYI - the USA web site for Inktec is either down or gone. I found a North Carolina telephone number and it is disconnected.

Thanks @stratman for the investigative work!!!! AND the product catalogue

I went ahead and ordered from the store @Arthur5 recommended. I mean I hope I did because there is no site with the DE extension but the COM one is located in Germany.....At least the description was very clear on the inks they sell.
As for the quiz I honestly do not know the answer but I might as well make an educated guess. The pigment is the right one?
