Thanks for the replies guys. Some things Im not so sure about. you can carefully peel off the label and notice that the maze leads to indentations on the cartridge. Sorry, what maze exactly.
I havent bought this printer yet maybe I should go for a previous modelIm not even sure if suitable ink is available for it yet. The instructions look a little too Hit n Miss for comfort. Has anybody had success using this method (without using stoppers i.e.peeling off label) to actually refill the above cartridges?

Here is a picture of PG510 and CL511 (your cartridges will look like this, even if they are different code) with the stickers removed:

The drill used in the above picture is big in diameter as these cartridges were prepared for ciss. For refilling you could use a smaller diameter drill.
Yes, this method works. I use it with a Pixma MP250 printer.

A Canon printer that uses separate carts for each colour makes refilling easier so I would look for that I can't provide specific model advise as I am oblivious to your location!

OK., I`m located in Germany seperate carts is a better idea but for around 60? .......and it must be a Canon.....obliged

It's amazing to me the differences in prices between North America and the EU. The Canon 2120 which I think is the NA equivalent of the 2150 was on sale at Staples for $49 last week.

I bought the InkTec kits and refilled following the instructions (almost):

What I did different is I drilled the holes with a 4mm drill so I could see the sponge when I refill. I inject ink slowly till I see the sponge saturated with ink, then I take the needle out, put it in the sponge just 3-4mm and suck out about 0,5ml for color and 1ml for black. Then I follow the instructions: put the cartridge in the holder and suck out slowly through the nozzles about 1ml of ink. The label goes back on the cartridge. I put the cartridges in the printer, initialize a head cleaning followed by a nozzle check. If everything is ok I resume printing, if not I do another head cleaning.
Because my printer damages the color cartridges I only use the mp250 for scanning and copying (black only). I still use the black cartridge that came with the printer and I refilled it about 16 times with perfect nozzle check.
You should know that when the cartridge is running out of ink the printer will ask you to buy another. You will refill it, of course, but then you will have to go through a procedure to disable the ink level monitoring (an on-screen dialogue initialized by the printer, don't worry about it). After that you will no longer be able to see how much ink you have in the cartridges and you must make sure that you don't run out of ink. That means refilling the cartridges once in a while (before they run out of ink!).
The mp250 is a loud printer, even with "quiet mode" activated, so you must be prepared for that.

Like so many others on this forum, I would advise you to get a printer/AIO with separate cartridges and printhead. Their initial price is a bit higher than the ones that use cartridges with integrated printheads, but in the long run they are cheaper, more fun/easy to refill and overall more enjoyable.

O.K., that's it, decided....single-ink Canon MG5150. I'm curious to know if I can use old carts and ink from ip4600 for this model. And chip resetter, when I refill.

cli521 is the same as cli526 except the chips and the window. The same goes for the pgi520-pgi525. You can use the carts from your ip4600 only if you take the original chips out and fit the chips from the new cartridges.

You will have to buy a new resetter, the old one will not work on the new chips: http://www.octoink.co.uk/products/Canon-CLI%2d526{47}PGI%2d525-Redsetter-[USB].html (Martin provides an excelent service and very low handling/shipping fees). After flushing them you have to swap the chips, reset, refill and you're good to go.

Indeed, single inks canon printers are the way to go but keep in mind that the printhead can die prematurely without notice! My old ip4600 just died without reason and no symptoms. My best next choice could be an epson but i decided to go for the mx515 (pg-540, pg-541) for 98euro. The reason i bought this printer is because has all the functions you may need and by replacing the cartridges you have a new printer again. It isn't a med-high volume printer but is the best choice for everyday light print jobs. Also if you have any another laser printer like i have (epson c1100n) for the big projects the mx515 is a jewel for your home or your office!
I'll try to refill these carts but i am not sure if i can reset them. Maybe trying to recycle 3 or more cartridges the printers recognize them as new....
