Your extended nozzle check looks perfect to me. To get a more clear extended nozzle check, you can use high resolution paper or matte photo paper instead of plain paper.

BTW the service manual has a list of recommended high resolution papers to use if the service test print should be used for line feed adjustment. There is no reason to change that adjustment as there are no streaks in the line feed test print.

Paper thickness might affect the print head alignment, so it might be a good idea to use some sheets of the Sihl paper to do a manual print head alignment on.

I have printed your uploaded photo on Sihl glossy paper, using IS inks and the settings Photo Paper Pro and Quality = user defined = 1 with no colour correction in the driver. This produces a print similar to yours using the IS inks, with the sky too cyan/greenish.

But correcting the colour setting in the printer driver by increasing magenta 15 units and leaving Yellow and Cyan unchanged produces a print, that is very close to the original photo and the results using Canon OEM inks. The other settings are still Photo Paper Pro and Quality = User defined = 1

Ok, so after switching all carts back to the OEM Canons, I switched back to the refilled carts one by one, beginning with cyan, then yellow and then magenta, and the quality remained the same as with the OEM carts. So it probably WAS ink starvation. Colour balance is unchanged, however, but I find it perfectly acceptable.

But I wonder, how is it possible that changing the paper type with OEM inks does almost not change the colour balance, while with the refilled carts, the difference is very noticeable?

Probably nozzle cleaning or printing some images drew more ink from the ink chamber into the sponges in the newly refilled cartridges, so they are now fully functional? Nice to hear the ink flow problem seems to be solved.

When switching cartridges there is still some of the old ink in the print head. This ink must be used before the new colour will show. Could that be the explanation?

Printer, ink and paper work together as a system and changing one or more of these will affect the colours, the Canon printer profiles are of course made for Canon paper and ink. With other inks and paper things might behave differently.

Have you tried increasing the magenta setting in the printer driver? That improved my printing using the Photo Paper Pro setting with the Sihl paper and IS inks.

It shows what quality settings are possible with what media and how many inks and print head passes are used. You find a similar table in the iP5200 service manual on pages 2-5 and 2-6.

I have an iP6600D that uses both regular and photo cyan and magenta. The difference between cartridges filled with photo and regular magenta ink looks strikingly similar to that shown in your post #35. Maybe your old magenta is photo magenta?

Hello, I have a question about refilling canon carts.

My printer uses CLI-221 and PGI-220 but they are opaque which makes flushing a bit more challenging. I would like to switch to the CLI-521 and PGI-520 carts because I understand they are the same size and are clear. Is it possible to do this? Will I need to swap the chips over from my old 221 and 220 carts?

221 and 521 are the same carts, just for different regions of the world.
