I have a ip4300 that I have had connected to a switched power strip alone with my Tower & monitor.
I thought I remember reading somewhere some time ago that that may affect the frequency of these (what I call) unnecessary cleaning cycles, especially the "deep cleaning". Anyone have any insite, or better yet tested both ways (switched vs always powered)?

From the ip4200 Service Manual 2005 (the prior year)

On a side note, from the ip4300 Manual on 'life' expectancy of that printer (note the number of years);
2-2. Product Life
(1) Printer
Specified print volume or the years of use, whichever comes first.
- Print volume: 13,000 pages
- Black: 5,200 pages (Black 1,500 character pattern)
- Color: 3,900 pages (7.5% duty per color pattern)
300 pages (A4, photo, borderless printing)
2,700 pages (4 x 6, photo, borderless printing)
900 pages (Postcard, photo, borderless printing)
- 3 years of use
(2) Print head
- Print volume: 29,400 pages
And before anyone asks, I've always have my PC equipment on a switched power strip, except for Modems & Routers that can be in use at anytime especially since I have VoIP phone service..

Don't pay much attention to Canon's lifespan stimations. They are very inconsistent from one model to another, even from the same generation. For instance, the Pixma IP-3000 was rated for 6000 pages or 3 years, while the IP-4000 ( practically a IP3000 with an extra photo black cart) had a stimated lifespan of 18000 pages or five years.
In real life, I managed to get 48000 pages from my IP-3000 until the printhead died, but the machine itself was still working fine,

I wasn't, I just included that as a FYI.

I'm more interested in reducing these excessive cleaning cycles that seem to be using more ink that what I print. :somad

At this point I have a question:

if it's rated for 13.000 pages why the printhead is rated for 29.400?

shouldn't be possible to get more life from a printer by replacing the printhead? I would have assumedthat the printhead was rated for less amount of pages.

Like for example total life 30.000 pages or 5y, waste ink for 25.000 and printhead for 15.000, something like that.

I managed to get 48000 pages from my IP-3000 until the printhead died, but the machine itself was still working fine,

Nice, you managed to get 800% the amount of clicks that the producer declared.
