OCP Gloss optimizer....smells horribly

Can someone confirm if the OCP Gloss optimizer has a pungent ammonia smell and is a bit soapy?

Yes but it is the best 3rd party GO available. Even CONE GO does not come close.

ALL OCP inks have a strange odor
When I am batch printing (at least 200 sheets) the sound of the printers (yes when i do alot of printing I utilize all available machinery) the humming of the printers, the smell in the air of ocp ink gives me a satisfying yet peculiar content..

Just sold an Epson B1100 Office printer.. this beast has ALOT of nozzle too I have another use machine on stock and been thinking to use it as "glossy" print machine, since I dont have my R1900 anymore, and sold the last epson 1400 I had

Hmmm,

I was testing with my Epson WF-7525 and put OCP Gloss optimizer in my black T1301 cartridge and covered several pages I have printed with Inktec Powerchrome K3 ink to see if the gloss improved.

The results were actually not so good. The only improvement was on satin/pearl type paper (Moab Satin 240gsm): it diminishes the bronzing of this ink, but I cannot see any improvement in gloss when I cover prints made on glossy paper (Netbit Glossy).

For sake of comparison I printed with Epson WF-7525 a few pictures on glossy paper (using the CMY-mode) and covered the print with gloss optimizer.....The gloss does improve, but prints made with Inktec Powerchrome K3 on the same paper WITHOUT gloss optimizer was much glossier than CMY-mode printed image with gloss optimizer (Epson WF-7525 is using OCP K3 Vivid ink for Cyan/Magenta/Yellow).

So I will keep my Gloss optimizer cartridge for pearl/satin paper only. Heavy Satin paper, like Epson semigloss with a deeper pearl surface doesn't seem to improve with gloss optimizer, so only for thinner and more matte type of pearl/satin papers gloss optimizer seems to improve overall printing quality.

So Inktec Powerchrome K3 does really a very good job on glossy paper, even better compared to other inks and covered with OCP gloss optimizer. Gloss optimizer only improves prints made on pearl/satin paper like Moab Satin 240 gsm and TPI Satin 240 gsm papers.

The only way I can get a GO coat over a print that actually does improve it dramatically is to use a dedicated printer such as a SP1400 loaded with 6 GO carts. You then need to print a black document through QuadToneRip and use a special curve designed to tell each color to put on an equal amount of GO. I use OCP GO and the results are amazing.

Even with full OEM k3 inks you still have some gloss differential but this process dramatically reduces / eliminates the artifacts and effectively eliminates all gloss and bronzing problems even on glossy stock.

The only problem is that it will alter the surface sheen of some of the more subdue satin papers making them appear more glossy than they normally no. But you can adjust the curves so QTR lays less GO overall.

Since I have a 1500W (similar to the Epson 1400), could you upload your print files and the QTR-curve for this printer, so I can redo my test and hopefully see an improvement?

I use I.S. GO in my 9500/7000 and my results are greatly improved on all colours with the exception of reds, the gloss is still a little bit flatter that I would like but still far better after the coverage, the black shows the biggest improvements.

A second application of GO doesn’t increase the glossiness so is a waste of time, and the paper I use is Sihl glossy photo.
