Spoilers - you either love them or hate them. :)

For those of you who don't know: A spoiler is a bit of information that another person may or may not want to know, for example a big plot twist in a movie. Here's an example:

Can you believe that Darth Vader is Luke's father!?!?!?
For those who hate them, we feel for you! That's why we are proud to introduce to you one of the newest feature of our forum, the Spoilers Feature.

Let's not "spoil" someone's journey of discovering something amazing by using this new feature.

Here is how:

1.) In the editor window, enter the text/message that you want to convert into a spoiler.

2.) Highlight the text that you want to convert into a spoiler and click the "Insert" button. A drop-down menu will then appear. Click the "Spoiler" option.

3.) The "Spoiler" window will then appear. You have the option to enter a title for your spoiler. However, you can also leave it blank if you want to.

The first picture shows that we have entered a title for the spoiler.

We have also created another text wherein we won't be entering a spoiler title. Either way, your spoiler will still be hidden.

4.) Once your post is published, it will look like this.

5.) If you'll click on the "Spoiler" button (yes, the green one), the content will appear. You can also re-click it to hide the content.

Hope that this will be useful to you!

Let us know what you think about it.

Basically the idea is that you may be posting something and give someone advanced notice that they may or may not want to see the information and giving them the choice to see or not see it.

It was originally designed for "spoilers" for movies, shows, books, etc. where people would be discussing something and wanted to put something as a "spoiler alert" so it wouldn't ruin the end for people who haven't read that far yet.

What's been cool is the other ways it's been used, for example:

Say you have a picture that is really graphic and may be something other people may not want to see. You could put it in a "spoiler" so people would have warning about it before clicking on the spoiler and opening it up... for example:

Or, say you have a LOT of text that may make the thread and post look horrible, so you put it in a spoiler so it doesn't take up so much room. Example:

Hopefully that helps clarify some use cases of the "spoiler" feature.

For the life of me I can’t get this darn spoiler thing to work !
It’s a good job because I HATE SPOILERS …

I admit I had to read the instructions more than once, and try a couple of times before I got it right. My "Test" post above was to verify that I finally got it right. So you could also give it another try.

You can add animations and sounds to a Microsoft Power Point presentation, to make it a bit more interesting, but overdoing this has the opposite effect of the intended. I think the spoiler should also be used sparingly.

If the word "Spoiler" could be removed, then the button could be used for head lines that expands into one or more paragraphs. This could be useful in a long post about for instance dismantling a printer for absorber cleaning.

Tried it on three separate occasions and still fluffed it so it just confirmed what I suspected all along, I am useless at figuring out these new fangled gismos, I am not saying there’re not a good thing, just the opposite in fact !
