With so much cartridges I hope the printer is CISS based, because movement will be impaired by the enormous mass of the print head + cartridges moving inside the printer. Will be there a user removable waste ink tank ?

Actually I think the most ideal printer will be as such:

-removable waste ink tank
-high gloss pigment ink (type: Epson K3 Vivid or Canon Lucia)
-Epson piezo print head with variable droplet size technology: 21/14/7/3/1.5 pl droplet size
-NO light magenta/cyan/grey, because the variable droplet size technology will make the usage of these lighter colours obsolete.
-ink configuration: Matte Black, Photo Black, Grey, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Orange, Green (8 channel 180 nozzle/colour printhead)
-CISS based
-30 ml per stationary ink tank.

All of them! LOL
The photo they show looks awfully like a PRO 9500 though it is supposed to be even better built.
Your color scheme for carts makes total sense. It reminds me of a dialoge I heard while viewing Luminuous Landscape's DVD From Camera to Print..
The two hosts were discussing the HP Z3100 or maybe the Z3200. The HP did what it did with a 12 color system and the comparable Epson machine ( I forget which one ) did the same thing, with just as wide a color gamut with only 9. The Epson guy was poking fun at the HP guy about how an HP needs 12 colors to do the job that the Epson could do with 9.

It's all about droplet size and dithering of such dots, the quality of the inks and of course the paper.
I am also afraid that the carts will still ride along on a moving carriage.
Oct is almost here so we'll see what they announce. It will probably be initially priced around $900 and hopefully it will end up being rebated along with a Canon Camera. Then they will end up on Ebay for cheap.

"Small well built cartridges," I have a sneaking suspicion that the older printer's used prices are gonna jump. Let's see how they cripple this pony.

I'm betting it will use either another shade of black plus Gloss Opt and the existing ten colors of the current PRO 9500 MKII
Price will likely be about the same per cart maybe a bit more. If the keep the same ink exit port design they will be easy to refill. Once the two extras become available. If it's priced correctly it will be one hell of good printer.

The Adorama bloke reckons it's a real goodun & by letting the printer manage the printing.
