I would like to buy a cheap (< $100) printer that prints up to 25-30 ppm Mono and does NOT require the replacement of color ink in order to keep printing in mono.

Is there any such printer?

Thanks much

Not too sure about the mono part but you might want to look at a K5400 (standard)... I've bought a K5400dtn to test a CIS kit on and I have to say compared to the K550 I'm actually impressed.

Perhaps a cheap laser might do, although finding one which prints at the speed you want might be a challenge.
Many inkjets will claim to print at that speed. Why not get one that is re-fillable? Then you'll be able to get the speed, and refill your colour carts if and when they get used or dry up.

If you only wish to print black, stay with a laser printer. There are some around $100, but they are not built like the old HP units that can run for 10 years without any repairs or replacement. Speed would probably be a bit less than you are looking for. Check out reviews on the Brothers lasers. I think that PC magazine has these reviews online. If they are available on Amazon you can read reviews from people who have purchased them. Remember, however, that the reviews on Amazon are by users and not professional reviewers. I recently purchased an HP laser printer and tried the lower priced units first to see if they would print envelopes and card stock well. Some of the lower priced units did very well with standard multipurpose 20# paper but not with envelopes or card stock. After you read the reviews, go to a store that has several units on the floor as demos. Bring some paper and ask if you can print the printer demo. I did buy a unit that virtually spits out the copies at over 30 pages per minute but it is for my business use and is far beyond your price range.

I don't think that inkjets are you answer as limited use will cause the printhead to clog. Manuchau is correct, however, that buying an inkjet printer you can refill would be the cheapest to operate. I don't know that any inkjet will have the speed you want.
