need something with cheap cartridge refills and put lots of outputs. i usually print text and coupons. photo printing is rarely. i've been looking into the canon ip4000,ip5000,ip6000 but been having trouble tracking one for a good price. any other recommendations? doesn't need to be canon, just don't prefer a ink guzzler. had an offer for brand new epson r260 for $30 (should i take it?)......but read that it eats ink like crazy.:) suggestions please.

I'd take the offer that Epson R260 model. You can always buy refillable cartridges or a CIS for it. If your looking to buy a new printer, you can go with the new Canon ip2600. You can refill the OEM cartridges and the printer cost about $50. That's just my recommendation.

Canon's are usually less to hassle with.

I was looking at that canon ip2600 myself. I'm looking for a printer that won't fight me when it comes to refilling. I've got a local source on ink, can get it by the gallon (almost!). But I want a printer that refills easy, I don't mind the mess or the time involved, I just want to be able to refill the cartridge myself, reset a setting on the computer/printer, and be off and running.

When you say the OEM ink cartridges are refillable, you mean I can do it myself, right? Do they have chips, or will the printer stop printing after awhile, how do you mean they are refillable.
