MP980 - rattling sound on power up

I've managed to remove the side panels and the scanner unit. I now have a much better view of the purge unit, but I don't see anything that could cause the sound and the error messages. I discovered a "fault" in the service manual though... In the ASF unit removal section the unit is shown with no cables which is not true. If front of the unit is a long circuit board screwed face down with cables that go in the mainboard on the right side and also to the left side of the MP980. There are no instructions on how to remove this board...

Any suggestions?
