The printer head on my Canon MP780 broke and I purchased another MP780 on Craigslist that prints beautifully. It is connected to an iMac via a USB cable. One telephone line cable goes from the wall to the MP780, and the other from the MP780 to the telephone. I read the owners manual and made sure the lines were connected properly. Sometimes, when I pick up the phone to make a call, I get no dial tone and the MP780 makes a clicking sound. I have tried using different telephones and it didn't solve the problem. The phone works fine by itself when connected to the wall outlet. It's only when I have it connected to this new MP780 that there is a problem. I even tried changing telephone lines/cables to no avail. I either get no dial tone or I get a clicking sound from the AIO when I pick up the phone to make a call. It's a sporadic problem. When there is no dial tone, the telephone also doesn't ring, so I have no idea if voice calls are also coming in as well. Any ideas on what the issue could be? I don't know if it's an issue with the MP780 or the telephone line itself.
I still have my old MP780 with the bad printhead. When I connected the telephone lines to it, I get a dial tone and am able to send a fax. If there is no easy fix to the newer MP780 that has a dial tone/fax issue, can I take the printhead from the newer MP780 and put it in the old MP780 and continue using the old MP780?
