Here is nozzle check after I cleaned the heads with windex. I think on next refill I will crack open the carts and wash the sponges. Any ideas on how to open them?

Just found this tip how to open carts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BU6q3V0Y2Q

Here is video of parking sequence

Looks like it's "capping" to me. The most interesting thing I see about the video is a puff of multi-colored vapor..must be the nozzles firing uncapped?? That must make a mess near the Parking station!

The Cartridges can be cracked open using a knife and they are much easier to open than HP combined sponge/print head cartridges. But I would not recommend the method shown in the video. Here is a video showing a method that looks even more dangerous to me. I have once cut myself badly with a knife slipping, trying to open an ink cartridge. Check out the video from 1:30.

I think a much safer method to open the cartridge is to place it on a table, and apply a knife to the joint between the top and bottom of the cartridge and gently tap the knife using a small hammer till the cartridge cracks open. Don't hold the cartridge but hold the handle of the knife. See this:

When the cartridge is opened and the sponge(s) removed, you can treat the cartridge body like a Canon print head for separate ink tanks to unclog it. I have done this several times with success both with Canon and HP cartridges. The procedure has also failed some times, but I think my success rate is better than 50%.

After unclogging the print head, the top can be glued back in place using 10 second glue. Make sure the joint between the top and bottom parts of the cartridge is airtight, else the cartridge will quickly dry out. A narrow strip of tape can be used to make sure the joint is airtight.

I did another test that is I have taken the problematic PG-40 and installed it in MP150, 2 days later I did nozzle check without problems. What does that mean?

I had a MP230 using a tricolor cart and a black pigment. When I saw problem like banding or something the only remedy to that was boiling the cartridge. I just added water to less than the half of the cartridge.

I left the sponges on and with ink on them, after a while boiling (adding wheight over cartridges so they were flat or flush) I dried the contacts on the cart, nozzle check and everything back to normal. :weee:celebrate

I forgot to mention the cartridges can be capped again with electrical tape just around the middle of the cartridge and that´s it, they don´t need to be hermetically sealed.
