Hi

I got myself a Canon mg6150 printer so that I could print from my laptop wirelessly (as well as iphone, ipad, htc desire hd). Loaded all the drivers/software onto my desktop (running Vista), connected the printer via usb and works nicely when connected.

Connected the printer to my wifi (Netgear DGND300v2 wireless modem router) and tried printing from my laptop (windows 7 64bit, printer driver/software installed) and it keeps telling me 'the printer is offline'. Disconnected the USB cable from my desktop and tried printing over wifi from the desktop and got the same response!

Reconnected the USB cable to my desktop and prints perfectly (duplex printing causes roller smudging even after a cleaning roller and head). Connected the printer to my modem/router via USB cable and then via the ethernet cable but still won't print over wifi! So the reason I bought this printer is not functioning.

Can anybody help me resolve this, pretty please.

Many Thanks
BurntAngel

My guess is there is a problem with the router and networking settings.

Usually it's the wrong wireless key entered or the wrong standard i.e. WEP instead of WPA or vice versa.

You probably already have this but just in case...

This is not specific to your printer but addresses a lot of the problems with Vista and wireless.

Vista is a flaky, buggy system. If your PC has the speed to support it I'd recommend installing WIn 7, it's so stable. and all the bugs of Vista are sorted.

Thanks InkJet Guru

I've played with the security settings and its still a no go! I'll lookthrough the links you've provided when I'm less angry. Unlikely that my dektop can handle windows 7 cos it's not all-powerful. Besides its not done me wrong yet.

I'm going to leave this open for a while longer in the hope that help may still be provided.

as far as roller marks, you need to go into the printer setting and change the drying time to a longer duration, as soon as you print on 1 side the printer is pulling the paper back in before the ink has a chance to dry

wait-a-min Inkjet Master, are you telling me you can change how long a printer waits before sucking the paper in to print on the other side!! hmmm, I'ver been thru the menu system on the printer and I haven't come accross anything that looks like a timer for roller drying....what should l be looking for? it is written in English, I hope, cos that 'Bonjour' bit is just....well....french to me!

ok go into the printer's printing preferences, then open maintenance, open the custom settings and there should be the adjustment at least that is how it is done on a IP4200 i am sure canon has continued this option in the newer printers

You are probably right about the option but then I wouldnt bet on it.
Were talking about Canon here who knows what they will do on their next generation of printers.. :(

Okay so I finally managed to get the printer working over wifi...after speaking to Canon Tech Support in Netherlands. To be honest, I don't think that even they knew what the problem was. In the end I had to 'Custom Install' the MP drivers again after doing the 'Easy Install'.

So it's working for now.

But....Call me stupid but I was hoping to be able to use the printer by any device connected to my wifi, i.e tablet, phone, laptop etc....without having to install the drivers/software first. Is there a way of hooking the printer to my modem/router to achieve this?

As far as I am aware you always need printer drivers on the device you are using.
