Have you considered both a monotone laser printer for office printing and a color inkjet for your CD's and photo output?

What about purchasing a print head for your current printer? (part # QY6-0080)

That's exactly what I will probably wind up with....or just the monochrome laser printer. I am using fewer and fewer CD/DVD's these days in favor of USB flash drives and SD cards. As for photos, well... the grandkids don't come around nearly as much these days and there's always Walmart! ;-)

The cost of a print head is about $100 and may not solve the problem.... and as PeterBJ pointed out, the new print head might be "killed" by whatever is possibly wrong with the logic board... or something else! It would certainly be something to consider if we could determine with relative certainty that it was JUST a malfunctioning print head.

We give standard warnings with an issue such as yours being either print head or logic board assay, or involving both components. We have no way of telling, although a competent tech could figure it out. So it is a crapshoot for any of us to determine with high specificity and sensitivity the culprit(s). There is risk.

I understand. I appreciate all the help.

FWIW, I ordered a refurbished Brother MFC-8810DW Mono Laser All-In-One from Staples for $169.99 plus tax with free shipping; the deal is good until this Friday. While trying to print the receipt I got an error message from the Canon MG5320, so I guess that it is now officially expired. I don't recall what the error code was.

Hi,

this printer isn't expired, but printhead is defective.
Printer itself seems to be OK.
For similar symptoms statistic 95% or more is printhead only.

Error code is most likely "U052" or "B200".

If error code is "B200" remove printhead from printer to prevent transportation damages to carriage, and re-power printer and power off with safe way (you will get "U051"/"No printhead installed" but it isn't dangerous).

Printer without printhead may be still usable for someone else, so try sell/give it rather than dispose.

You are correct. The error code is B200.

I have almost forgot.

There is a way to fend off B200 error.

The price is that printhead will lose printing capabilities.
(but scanner and all non-printing features will be accessible)
Some contacts on printhead connector have to be sealed with electrical tape:

(the picture posted above is similar to some other pictures posted before but it has one pin more /VHT/ sealed by electrical tape).

Sometimes after sealing certain contacts, Error U052 is revealed instead of Error B200.
