I found a service manual for the Epson L1800 here. But it seems the manual has no list of fatal error codes. There is some instruction for troubleshooting fatal error messages starting at page 15.

Maybe the fatal error codes are common for more printer models? The service manual for the L800 model has a such list at page 104 and 105. If you want to you can also download the L800 manual.

The WicReset utility typically gives a one line explanation for the error codes in the status repport.

I "think" (and be prepared for me to get this wrong) it's actually an 0x71 error in which case it's this:

APG home position seeking error. APG Sensor failure, APG motor failure, Foreign object, Cable or FFC disconnection
If my memory isn't completely shot I think the issue is likely one of the following:
  • Something is blocking the printhead ability to get back into it's parked position:
    • Check for any stealthy objects (read: ink covered cr*p) that's getting in the way
    • Check the capping station (resting pad used for head cleaning) isn't out of position
    • Something else blocking printhead travel
  • The ribbon cable into the back of the printhead circuit board has come adrift or has lost connection
(Has this happen a lot with an old C84 that the CIS tubing would catch and yank out)

  • The printhead motor is shot and not working anymore

Basically look at the printheads ability to move and get into it's resting position far right.
