Nice one, so you don’t have to take all the reels, just to replace an empty, my single shart system is already up and running but I’ll look further in this guys idea, because it has merits..

That's a pretty cool design!

I need to figure out what's going on with my dry box since the filament is binding in the bowden tube and results in under extrusion :(

Could also be the PTFE tube getting old/dirty/deformed?

I think that if the filament bends where it enters the Bowden tube this will cause friction. I think a tangential arrangement like this would be better:

I'm still troubleshooting. Not sure if it's the PTFE tube, the kink in the filament, the orientation of the spool and/or the dry box, the length of PTFE, etc. etc. etc.

I will say that Peter's drawing is closer to what I found works. My first attempt was with the line more in the middle, like The Hat's drawing, and that resulted in the filament buckling, especially with a full roll.

I will say that Peter's drawing is closer to what I found works.
@PeterBJ drawing does work ok for a while but when the reel gets half way thought then the problems can start, (Direction change) that’s why I suggest using a longer piece of tube that will bend in the direction of the oncoming filament..

I’ve been looking further into the problem of drag on the filament as it feeds into the extruder, I noticed that I’m getting a different laydown filament pattern when the extruder has to pull the filament a little bit harder sometimes.

Instead of using a centre shaft to hold the filament in the dry box I’ve decide to go for the idea that @Redbrickman posted in an earlier thread, I will also be using bigger outlet holes in the side wall to prevent filament drag from occurring as already discussed.

I tend not to babysit my 3D printer but when I do I get all sorts of new ideas to help make it run smoother, some of the stuff I use doesn’t always improve my work flow but that doesn’t stop me trying other ideas, My filament has about 1 metre to run after it leaves the reel to get to the extruder.
