Adnam, i just tried setting my clock back and printed - no changes. sorry you're having an issue, but glad i'm not alone (misery loves company)
from the sound of it, even though my CIS chip (and presumably yours) says the tanks expire in 2010, something is telling the printer the chips are no good now - even then, i beleived the printer would work with an expired chip, just not be happy about it - - looks like we (and probably a lot more folk) need new chips.
i did buy a k5400 kit - i'm thinking of pulling those chips to try in my k550 - and then i'll figure out what to do with the k5400 which is running stock cartridges now - i don't want to waste all the ink in the k550 - i loved my CIs but if it is at the end of its life, then $50 or so for a new one isn't horrible - though i'd much rather just get the chips and keep my beloved CIS which otherwise worked flawlessly...

Thanks for the further detail Gary..

I'm waiting for a reply from my contact but don't expect it to be quick... For now I'd go with your gut on swapping the chips with your K5400.. and like I said, if that works, see if you can get a new set of chips from the same supplier.

quickie update - my new cis came, and though i wanted it for the 5400 i decided it was more important to get my limping k550 back up - i thought about swapping just the black chip but instead installed the new CIS which shows and expiration date in 2011 - anyway, the thing is working like a champ.
fortunately, the CIS looks almost exactly like my old one (which i lived - it's the ST thing) though my old one is i guess the AT version. i guess this means in about a year or so i'll need another CIS - it's paid for itself many times over but i do want new chips so i don't waste all the ink - plus i'd then move the CIS to the 5400. i'm trying to buy some chips in bulk as i can't imagine me and adnam are isolated - so far no responses...i'd still love to buy even "lousy" chips if it gets the thing working...

:) I'll know what the score is with the chip side of things in about 2 weeks time, after which I'll need to test them for a couple of days and see what they actually do... but if you can wait that long I'll be in a position to sort something out then.

As for bulk ink... recommendations on who and where to buy from depend largely on where you are so a location would be useful :)

Ah.. in that case you want to look for a "Image Specialists" reseller in the USA... Quick look at their map shows MIS Associates (www.inksupply.com) are more or less the only one although there may be folks who re-sell on their own..

I only recommend this ink manufacturer as I know the ink is compatible and works very well but there may be other recommendations so perhaps cast around a little first..
