I have genuine Canon ink cartridges installed. I'll follow the suggestions and get back if I continue to have problems. What is a good source to buy canon ink cartridges?

!!!!! Oddly enough the printer appears to be performing o.k now. I didn't really do much other than a 'head clean' once more. Maybe it was the car journey that upset it. Thanks so much for all the advice ! ! ! ! ****

That's plausible as something seems to have happened to the magenta cartridge during the car trip.
...I should mention that when I removed the magenta cartridge, there was a bit of ink on the outside of the cartridge. I thought that odd at the time. The printer had been carried in the back of my car shortly before when I'd moved. Could it have been 'jiggled about'? Someone suggested air had got into the feed system. Is that probable and if so, what can I do about i?
This is one reason it is often suggested to try a new OEM cartridge to rule out cartridge problems. One of the purposes of the nozzle cleaning is to remove air from the print head.

What’s has imagination and exaggeration got in common.
You first have to have a good imagination to be believable when you’re exaggerating.. :p

Giving remote assistance is one of the hardest things to do, but sometimes seeing a minor imperfection in nozzle check test triggers panic :ep, even if the prints are fine :hide
