IngramAU..

I dont think you should give up, now that youve come this far. I still think your cartridges play a big part in your problem. The cartridge sponge could have got a bit clogged after being left empty for so long. Try washing them out with water and refilling them again with your ink. Have a look at --Cleaning CLI's and PGI-5BK cartridges by Ash ...

The ip4700 will work with you refill ink but they come chipped cartridges. ;)

OK I've cleaned them out, the blue one is quite resistant however, it still retains a hint of blue to it, the other two colours still have a hint of their colour but not as bad as the blue.

Shall let them dry for a few days and try them. Honestly I don't see how it will make a difference, colours are fine in standard, wrong in photo mode. How does the ink cartridge factor in when it can work fine in one method and not the other?

Genuine question, not trying to be a smart ass.

When you print on plain paper you can get away with banding and the like as it doesnt show up that well, but every little blemish does on photo paper. Have a look at the wonderful pic that vilrockerdefer has on his page # 49 ... Little striping problem with Canon Pixma MP760 by vilrockerdefer.. :)

Well I just finished testing. Still the same results. I cleaned out the cartridges, let them dry for 2 days, refilled them and still getting too much red in photo mode vs normal colour with standard printing.

I guess the print head is fried.

Are you positive that the ip4700 will work with my refill ink? What can I do about the chips in the cartridges?

Invoke the nozzle check from the maintenance panel. That's the correct way to do a nozzle check, not by printing a color photo or a scan with all the colors.

The light cyan block in your nozzle check from post #1 appears to be lighter than it should be. I wish I knew how to do an extended nozzle check on this printer. That would tell you conclusively if a set of nozzles is not working. Anybody else know how to do an extended nozzle check?

I think my printer is well and truly buggered now.

When I do gray scale printing, in standard or high quality, blacks are turning out with a red cast over them now.

It's screwed!

Your ink cartridges (is) are contaminated. When one or more of your ink cartridges leak this is a common result that one or more ink cartridges suck up the leaked ink and become contaminated. If black turns out reddish your magenta ink cartridge may be leaking.
